Default Acoustic 'Friend'

This came on my iPod earlier and I'd not heard it for aaages.

I had forgotten how fantastic the acoustic version of Friend is. In fact, I actually prefer it to the album version for some reason. I think I like the natural sound, sort of stripped down and less polished. (Ooh I sound like Lindsey on one of his rants now. )

I remember hearing an interview with Chris and they played this, and she clearly had no idea they'd produced an acoustic version, probably since it was something I think that was mainly done as an iTunes exclusive and didn't require her input.

I think I like the album version & the acoustic version about the same. The acoustic version sounds pretty similar to the feel of the Christine Perfect album. You can really hear her electric piano so well. But, I also love the clavinet on the album version.

That interview you're referring to is that World Cafe interview. The vocal on the acoustic version is the same vocal as that of the album version with just piano, acoustic guitar & a little percussion added in & everything else removed.

I love both versions, too. The acoustic version is interesting. Her keyboard work and its interplay with the acoustic guitar reminds me of her playing on "Honey Hi."

It's an excellent version.

Would anyone be able to share this?

Also, how about "Come Out to Play" - the unreleased track.

I like the acoustic "Friend." Listening to her digital Rhodes, you can hear immediately that she's getting a groove going with a minor 7th on the verses--that's how she starts the song. That's exactly how she starts "You Make Loving Fun"--with a minor 7th!

I don't have the acoustic "Friend", but I do have "Come Out To Play".

When ITM came out, I believe she even said, that she borrowed "from herself", the groove on Friend.
