Unhappy Stupid stuff you've heard people say about FM

Okay...we've all had those experiences where you've heard someone say something about FM that just made you wince. I thought it would be fun to share these distressing experiences.

At a Mac show last year, this 50-ish, rich, drunk lady repeatedly told me all about how she had REALLY enjoyed Stevie's show the previous year with Cyndi Lauper (she was confusing Stevie with Cher, just in case you don't know).

When I was in line for tickets a couple weeks ago, there were two girls and a guy tagging along with them in line behind me. One of the girls says, "I asked my mom if she wanted to go to the concert and she said, 'Not unless Christine McVie is gonna be up there on keyboards.'" The guy goes, "Keyboards ? Who cares about the keyboard player?! Anybody can play keyboards !" Now, I can kinda forgive him, because he clearly was not a Mac fan, but why did the other two supposed fans not retort?! They just giggled. I kept my mouth shut only because I was first in line and I didn't want to piss them off and risk them demanding a lottery.

I know a lot of people who don't understand that there is Stevie solo and Stevie FM. Any song with Stevie singing, it's just Stevie.

Also, when I play a FM album with a non-fan around, he or she will say, "I didn't know they sang THAT."

Hey, was that the lady at the Portland show? I remember her! I would have thought she knew her stuff since she traveled clear across the country. LOL!

Actually I have a dumb comment from someone. I went to lunch with a guy friend the other day and we were talking about FM. I told him they were going on tour again this summer, but Christine wasn't in the band anymore. He said, "oh did she quit because of her ex-husband?" He said it with his eyebrows raised like there was something going on between them still and they couldn't handle playing together.

Uh, little did he know that happened about 25 years ago. I didn't even try to explain. It would have taken too much energy.

I've had several people over the years, when I'm talking about FM, say,
"Oh, I like him" (thinking FM is a man).

I get a lot of the "Lindsey, which one is she??" and "It's funny that Stevie is a boy's name and Lindsey is a girl's name..."

BUT the most common thing I hear actually has to do with Stevie..and it's the ever-popular witch reference..

It's like the "Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds is about LSD..." thing...I just roll my eyes and move on...I just let people think whatever they wanna think...

I've stopped arguing or even explaining things to people who say these things...it's not worth the effort lol....

Well I am younger then the avergae fan, so whenever I say I like Stevie Nicks at school everyone says, "Who's he?" It is insane!

Also, when me and my Dad went to their concert this summer everyone assumed I was just tagging along, when really it was my birthday present and I was bringing my dad. So, I get pissed off when people think I am too young to like Fleetwood Mac.

Also, a substitute teacher at my school saw my wearing a Mac shirt and said "Rumours was pretty good, but then they came out with Tusk!"

Also, at the bookstore one day I was wearing a FM shirt and the lady at the counter said something like "I don't like them anymore because that other girl left!" Not only did she insult Christine by not knowing her name, but she insulted the band by not giving them a chance!

Let's see... someone thought it was, and I quote, "gross" to like Stevie Nicks because she is in her 50s.

That about sums it up!

When people (and I use the term loosely!~ha!) say:

that they're easy listening----WTF?!?!?

that they don't rock--- (see above comment)

"Eagles, Fleetwood Mac,...same difference"

"Stevie sounds like she gargled with glass"

condescendingly: "I just don't....get into them, sorry."

Yep, I get that too. "But you are too young to be listening to them."

Excuse me?

Why is there an age limit to listen to kick a$$ music?

LOL I should say to them, "Wow, you're too old to be that stupid."

My friend who likes to believe she's intelligent once said:
"Er yes, in the 1970's Stevie was ostrasized from the USA for being a witch"

Eh?

Also,

Another annoying comment made by the friend I posted about above: He was talking about how he likes Stevie and I said something like yeah, and Lindsey is just an amazing guitar player. And he goes, "what? He's like 60!" I said, no he's not, he's like 50 (which I know is not true, but his real age is closer to 50 than 60!) Then he went on saying how is favorite band (Widespread Panic) the guitarist is only 45. So his point being, I guess, the older you are the less talented guitarist you are???? WTF, seems it should be the other way around. Anyway, that was another comment that made no sense and I didn't even waste my time arguing about.
