I'm still not convinced that "Come Out To Play" is about the "mystery man". My hunch is that it's about someone else.

For what it's worth, I think the reason it wasn't included on ITM is because McVie once said something about only get royalties on 12 songs per record...anyone else ever hear/read this? |

I've never heard this from Chris or anyone else. Where did you hear this?

Personally I don't think Christine is bothered about the financial side or royalties from ITM. She didn't do it for the money, so I think she just decided Come Out To Play didn't fit either lyrically or musically.

It might not be about anyone. Your suggestion of it being a "bonus" track is the best I think Gail |

I'm certain that the idea that a musician only gets paid royalties for 12 songs per album is wrong. Otherwise, you'd NEVER get an album with more than 12 songs. (Which might not be a bad thing -- in the age of CDs, there are a lot of albums out there that are too long.)
I find it very interesting that the actual promo CD from whence "COTP" originated has a very different running order. Starting with "Anything is Possible" seems like an odd choice. But if that's the way I had heard it from the beginning, it wouldn't seem that way to me, I suppose. I do have to agree that Christine isn't the most creative lyricist in the world, but you don't have to write "poetic" or "deep" lyrics to be a great songwriter. Her songs describe in simple, readily understandable terms the emotional landscape -- usually in romantic relationships, but sometimes addressing other subjects such as friendship, homesickness, etc. I think she's extremely under-rated as a songwriter, even among Fleetwood Mac fans. I far prefer her songs to songs that *sound* poetic, but you can't decipher what they're about. I love Gail's little capsule descriptions of what the songs are about and how they tell the story. And I completely agree with Aisling's running order. I was already planning on putting "COTP" after "Anything Is Possible." But I also like the idea of moving "Bad Journey" to after "Anything Is Possible" and "COTP." Thanks, Aisling, for the suggestion.

Christine has described herself as a "pretty basic love song writer" I think she sells herself short. She writes great pop songs for grown ups. Gail PS did you see her getting her Oscar the other night? Oh no wait a minute that was her lookalike Helen Mirren |
