Post Fleetwood Mac should follow the marketing tactics of Tom Petty...

From Pollstar:

Tom Petty, Live Via Satellite
Updated 00:24 PDT Tue, Sep 24 2002
Utilizing a promising new way to reach large audiences, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers will play a one-time-only concert version of their new album, The Last DJ.
The October 15 concert will be taped at the Grand Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles and broadcast via satellite to 38 movie theatres around the country. The show will also be carried by radio stations in the U.S. and Canada.
Tickets to see the show in person went on sale September 22 while tickets to the various screenings will be given away by local radio stations. A list of participating areas and stations will be announced on the band's Web site, tompetty.com, within the week.
The method of transmitting live events to theatres is still being pioneered. Acts like Gorillaz and Korn have taken advantage of the technology, and major league sports is also trying it out.
According to Petty's Web site, this will be the only live performance of the entire album. The Last DJ is reportedly a musical diatribe about the corporatization of rock.
A fall tour with dates yet to be announced launches October 25, but Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers will be making several stops on television shows like NBC's "Today Show," David Letterman's "The Late Show" and Conan O'Brien's "Late Night." But the real promotional coup comes November 10, when Tom joins Mick Jagger, Elvis Costello and others as celebrity voices on the season opener of "The Simpsons." The episode, dubbed "How I Spent My Strummer Vacation," will see Homer attending a rock ‘n' roll fantasy camp.
Cocktail party trivia: Other rock stars who have visited Springfield include members of Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, Yo La Tengo, The Who, The Ramones, Spinal Tap, and U2 to name just a handful.

Why can't Fleetwood Mac do something like this?
