Thank you very much everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

My Mom died on Monday.

No one is quite sure yet exactly what happened, but there's going to be an investigation. Something happened to cause her brain to become very swollen. When that happened, there was pressure on her lower brain, which controls things like heart rate, consciousness, breathing etc. In someone who had already had a bad stroke, it was just too much.

We think she might have had at least one "low oxygen event" which may have caused her brain to swell. There was at least one time that we walked into her room and several of the red warning lights were on, on the respirator. We've noticed a tendency all along for the nurses and other medical personnel to not pay enough attention to respiratory issues. In fact, at Stony Brook University Hospital, on a past visit, they didn't think it was necessary to have her on an oxygen monitor at all. ( I've heard NOTHING but bad things about Stony Brook Hospital, and that was our experience too. )

Anyway I guess in a way all that's for later. The lawyers are going to have to sort it out.

I don't know what else to say right now. Right now I'd just like to thank everyone again for their thoughts and prayers.

The only thing I can say to you is that I lost an Aunt who was VERY dear to me 4 years ago and I still havent gotten over it. I dont know if that helps but at least know that I can somewhat understand what youre going trhu. My prayers are with you.

What an emotional earthquake, where the ground under your feet changes and you can't stop it, nor can you repair it.

They say time heals all wounds but it takes a lot of time. My mom died when I was 20 (I am now 54.)

I will light an candle for you and your mom.

Please let us know how you're doing. Lots of people will be thinking of you.

Oh no...oh you poor poor thing. I have been checking often to see any updates from you....this was not what I--or anyone--was hoping to hear, of course.

I am so very sorry...I cannot even imagine. I understand as well the added pain of it being something that was possibly the responsibility of the hospital...when my grandfather died, it was largely because of improper care in the hospital. It's just an added jolt at an already difficult time, and it's truly awful.

Hang in there....you and your family are in my prayers.

sending you my condolences and a hug...Been through the same as you (Also happened on a Monday due in part to medical incompetence and a FDA Class A recall the medical staff was not aware of...But I am sure they WILL be very soon!!!!) just hang in there and be around family.
