![]() Just listened on Spotify. I dunno, it’s corny enough to work for this type of album from Dolly. It isn’t the worst thing I’ve ever heard but I’m not sure I’d ever put this on a playlist for any reason at all. It still sounds like a demo in that the lyrics seem like they’re waiting to be finished. The chorus just…”what has rock and roll ever done for you…….you too!” Like, this is the best you could come up with?

I think the lyrics are funny, tongue in cheek. And I wish Stevie would get her adenoids seen to or at least blow her nose. |

![]() Just listened and damn I love it the same way I love Stevie's two foot high hair in the Red Rocks video. I can't remember the last time we got a campy Stevie like this that was enjoyable.
Never one of my favorite demos - but if there was ever a place it should have landed it was on this Dolly album. It works for me because they approached it from a camp angle - singing this one straight never could work. The way Stevie says "everything" is that same dead pan 80s Red Rocks "you fill the room with the wind the rain and the water". I'm not sure Stevie had the self-awareness to know when she was being camp in the 80s but I think some of that excess and ridiculousness from 85/86 hooked me in as much as some of the great songwriting from 1981. Not sure I'll play the Stevie/Dolly duet a million times but my verdict is - I'm glad this little song found its home in the pink rhinestone studded walls of a campy Dolly Parton rock album. I'm here for it! |

It's like a little quick note of an idea that you would maybe just jot down and come back to later to work on and try and make into a song. It is just NOT a song. The lyrics are practically non-existent. One small string of words repeated over and over and over... and the words are just...stupid. "Self made woman self made man" "Answer the question" "What has rock and roll ever done for you" "Give me some more champagne" I will never understand why she pronounces the word "profession" the way she does...sort of rushed... rather than breaking it down into its syllables, so that it would highlight the rhyme with 'question'. Poor Dolly. Poor, poor Dolly...a songwriter who continues to produce real art and actually craft actual songs As for Stevie's vocal, she's artificially tweaked to within an inch of her life. Listen to the dialogue with Dolly at the end of the song.... I had to listen multiple times to realize the second comment is actually Stevie... her speaking voice there sounds almost the same as Dolly's, thin and high-pitched. Then I realized they left the automated tuning on her speaking as well.

![]() She sticks to her demos because it's been an ongoing theme for decades that she often claims loving her demos more than the finished product. She gets the "warm and fuzzies" when she listens to her own demos because ITS ALL ABOUT HER. It's her singing, it's her attempted piano playing etc.
Take that attitude and combine it with her bloated I'm a legend ego and she's 100% convinced that all of her demos are little masterpieces and nobody is going to tell her to change a single thing because she's Stevie Nicks after all.

![]() This whole Dolly project reminds me of when Pat Boone had his leather pants phase in his late 70s LOLOL...
It might be a fun track, but it's truly late career vegas-y garbage that I would have never expected from her if you would have asked me 15 years ago. There's no reason for her to be embarrassed about her 80's output if she's ok with this! Somebody send Lori and Sharon back to the UHAUL storage for the coke and mirror cassette collection.
