Question Peter Green show

ROCKONTV guide to music on television

Show: Peter Green: A Hard Road
Episode: Peter Green: A Hard Road
Network: (OVA) OVATION * The Arts Network
Date: Sunday - March 23, 2003
Time: 05:00 pm - 05:30 pm ET

Featured Artists
Fleetwood Mac, Peter Green (British)
About Peter Green: A Hard Road
This is an exclusive, in-depth film about the life of a rock legend. Guitarist Peter Green’s band Fleetwood Mac was voted in a 1969 poll as more popular than The Beatles or The Rolling Stones. But at the pinnacle of his success, Green retreated from public life, blaming LSD use on his increasingly fragile mental health. In the past 25 years he has tried to give away his fortune, was rumored to be homeless, and has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals. Now he’s making a comeback. This profile tells the story of a lost quarter century as it follows Peter Green and his new band into the studio and out on the road.

Anyone here have the Ovation Network??? Has anyone seen this show on Peter Green??

Yes & yes.

It is very good, but one must remember that this was filmed right at the very beginning of the Splinter Group (as they were getting ready for their first gig, even, if I recall) in 1995 or 96...Peter has comeback light years even further since THIS was filmed. The Peter Green in this documentary seemingly is only a shell of the man I met in 2000 and he'd even seemed to gotten even healthier when I got the opportunity to talk to him again in 2002. Not only that, but you can hear the "health" in his playing...compare the difference between his playing in 1996 on the first PGSG album and now on Reaching The Cold 100...the growth is phenomenal.

Exclamation THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP CHRISTY!

Yeah, I understand this is the BBC 2 documentary originally called "The works" aired first on October 3, 1996 in the UK (retitled here of course). I did just get Ovation so I hope I remember to catch it for "upgrade purposes".

Being that it is still in its original 1/2 hr length, I don't think it has been updated. Ovation (or was it Trio?) showed it a month or so ago...it left off right after the PGSG's debut show. I just hope everyone watching it for the first time NOW doesn't assume Peter is still in this same shape today as he was when this program was filmed. It is only a moment in time. I wish they WOULD update it or come out with a sequel to show how much healthier Peter has gotten in the past 7 years.

It's probably OK to ask but the thing with my copy is that I have the original BBC broadcast of it transferred over from PAL to NTSC so you'd probably be better off with someone else that may have taped it from Ovation, I forgot to though, damn. Well, they seem to play it pretty often so I'll try and keep an eye out for it in the future in case they rerun it again. In the meantime, can anyone else help out annaconda here with a copy?

John

It seems to be shown on Ovation in a fairly regular basis (like once every few months or so)...so there'll be another chance to catch it, I would think, in the not so distant future. As most cable channels seem to go, they usually reshow certain shows in a variety of timeslots over the course of a couple of weeks, so keep your eyes peeled to the listings.
