The host that provides the server crashed and they have been trying to get it back up since. Should be fixed tomorrow.

Can someone explain how a server can bring a site down? I thought the site is "powered" on another server and that is what you pay a montlhy fee for? So to me the issue would be if the monthly payment got paid, correct? The site does not reside on somemones home computer does it? I thought that was the reason for "supporting memberships." To help cover the monthly cost.

Thanks for the explaination but what would happen if the monthly bill to the "host" was not made?

I have no idea. I'd assume that if it was a technical problem, it wouldn't be that the fees weren't paid, though. Either way, it's kind of pointless to speculate.

I know what you're thinkin', but really I think this is a tech. problem with the server. There's plenty of things that can go wrong with that, for example the disks themselves can develop a mechanical problem from physically moving around all the time, the "driver" that makes it go can have a problem, the device that reads it can crash, or the computer program that makes it all work can develop a bug. It's a machine like any other, and machines need to be maintained and fixed sometimes. Considering the complexity of the system, I'm amazed it doesn't happen more often.

Sure, but when the owners do not communicate then that is what happens. My speculation is that the monthly bill did not get paid and if you don't pay it within a certain number of days all the backup data will be lost as well. I would speculate that if it does come back up it will be around March 15th, payday.
