To whit - I had my problems with my father, but he kicked my ass. Thank God he was an Army man. Hated him for it then, love him for it now.

If I didn't stand up straight - a thump in the back with a knuckle.

If I drug my feet - a smack on the ass.

Break curfew ? Home by 7 for a week. Extra school activities be damned. Break that one ? It was a month.

Bad grades ? Study from after school till bedtime. And he checked on me.

Talk back to my parents ? HA. A backhand or the soap.

I broke each rule ONCE. Never again. The punishment was swift and brutal.
Follow the rules ? Freedom and praise.

The result ? Straight A's in school, perfect credit, no criminal record, and a pretty damned good life. Oops. Not sensitive enough for current political climate. Ah well. It was a good trade.

It's about the only thing that makes me want to be a parent.
Such things would probably get a parent sued or thrown in jail now.

So OT, but I was inspired.
