I like to pick up a book, read the jacket & decide if I think I will enjoy it or not. So yes, I DO judge a book by its cover. And I've gotten over finishing a book just because I started it. It doesn't happen often, but if I'm not into it after the first couple of chapters, forget it. Why waste my time?

I've had a dry spell on reading lately. Haven't found anything that I really like. I have a book from the library called "The Trees of Eden" right now, but I can't seem to get into it.
I'm the same way - if I don't get into it then it's out - although I couldn't get into Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil at first -and it ended up being one of my favorite books!!

Still - I also judge books by their covers lol...I used to go into this old used bookstore and randomly select books based on their covers - I found some interesting reads that way

Now though - my selection process is a tad more refined...

And I, too, know people who don't read anything at all - which I could never do - my life seems incomplete if I'm not reading something - I mean right now I'm reading the Little House Books...but at least I'm reading

AND - I just got two free books at work, Founding Mothers - by Cokie Roberts and The Orientalist by Ton Reiss

I just finished with Dante's Imfeno.

I'm currently reading A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking and The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Also, I decided to read Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix again to brush up my memory for when The Half Blood Prince comes out. Yep. I'm a geek.

I can't wait for HBP either.

I'm not too far into the Order of the Phoenix yet, but it does seem better the second time. I forgot what an evil cow Umbridge was.

One of my favorite books ever.

Along with Middlesex I'm also reading The Complete Works of Edgar Allan Poe.

I love Harry Potter too! I'm trying (and mainly failing) to combine that and improving my french by reading the books in french. I'm up to The Prisoner of Azkaban but it's getting tough. You do get to learn cool phrases like Baguette Magique (Magic Wand)

I'm reading All Souls, A Family Story from Southie and Suze Orman's The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous and Broke. I'm really digging both of these! I just got them yesterday. However, I am still only halfway through Clinton's autobio and Great Expectations. So I've got a lot going on. I think All Souls will get me back into reading becuase it is a modern story, and it has a sociological tone so I will naturally be sucked right into it.

I wish you had seen the talk then! She is stunning in person! She almost didn't show because of the weather but I told her I was glad she did because my Mom and I had taken the day off to see her.

The book is great and even has a companion Web site. You answer 20 questions and then you get a task to complete. Then you revise your answers and get another. It is good for people like me who have trouble focusing.

I went to a talk she held in Connecticut last year and I learned a helluva lot. I always scour my Suze books and software come tax season because she always gets me a big refund. Been following her advice/books since, cripes, 1998 I think. She's a gem!

Next time I will be taking a notebook and taking notes. She was like, "I never married, and never had children, which is why I still have all my money." The gem spouted lots of little gems!

No I haven't. I felt like I OD'd on her. But then she wrote this perfect book for my generation and I am back to fandom. Plus I am finally ready to deal with my money (see shopping thread) issues. So I will probably tune in now, I never thought she would be so entertaining!

Also, I'm hazy on the details but she said she was recently consulted by folks high up in the treasury. They wanted her advice on America's money attitudes and such. This woman has become quite powerful!
