Yes, a grab at power. I don't think they give a rat's ass who gets married they just know that it is an attention grabber to put this thing out there and that a lot of Christian fundies will vote for it without a second thought.

My point is so simple, I guess many are reading too much into it. Simply put, in the very beginning of time if all.... robins were to take a same sex mate, there would be no robins today. That's all...
True - no one is agruing against that. In fact, I think everyone agrees with that. I think the thing people are saying is that is an example not based in reality because the reality is straight people, gay people, non reproductive straight people, reproductive gay people, etc.. all are on this planet. So, there is going to be reproduction no matter if the automatic govt. sanctioned benefots are made available to all. So, the no reproduction point is a red herring in this argument.

Bush is such a sad sack of shiitte - he and his cronies cannot win on any legitimate issue because pretty much everything W and his adminsitration have done has failed to reach any promised expectation or failed altogether. So, they pick on fags - nice and certainly very Christian

it really has to do with it being recognized as an institution.. that is, marriage in general, and the benefits that come with it! how about this.. If the state no longer endorses only certain marriages as legitimate, there is no inequality for anyone.. period. in other words.. government involvement in ANY marriage should be done away with.

I have presented my opinions on this issue before, and received a ton of critcism, as would be expected I'll receive it again.

There are alot of great people in here, gay and srtaight. My intention is not to create anger, but to present an opposing view.
This opinion was presented very politely. The facts are gay couples are having children, their own and adopted. In a theoretical world on paper someplace maybe they don't, but in the real world they are having kids in all sorts of ways involving surrogacy. They are reproducing and they are commiting so let's just call it exactly what it is, a same-sex marriage, and do these people the incredibly kind and benevolent favor and bestow upon them the same language we use for everyone else, and to distiguish between marriages add same-sex in front if it makes you feel better.

I am a hetero Christian, albeit from the terrorist seive to the north (according to former Torontonian CNN news dude John Roberts), and I selfishly would like to see our species make this progressive move within my lifetime. I was engaged to a man in the U.S. and lived there for long periods. Sadly we were unable to marry for huge financial reasons once he was diagnosed with inoperable cancer, thanks to the negatives we would have faced in terms of medical coverage for both of us. Sometimes I wonder just why gay people want to get married, but I wish them the freedom to experience the negatives and benefits to the status denied to me and the man who loved me. He passed away early into this year and while I say in my heart we were married before God and everybody, I do know the pain of being denied the ability to marry and I would not wish it on others.

I hope it was okay to share this and how more than ever it is important to me that people who want to marry be able to do so. I hope people can remain respectful. I was shocked to hear of anti-gay protesters showing up at funerals of soldiers who died in Iraq to protest some alleged support of homosexuality within the military. That was extremely disrespectful as were the signs I saw.

Eek, thought I'd better add that "the incredibly kind and benevolent favor and bestow upon them" was tongue in cheek. I get a bit odd sometimes with language and didn't want anybody reading that 'straight'.

Yes. Thank you. My. Goodness.

Wait, are you sure everyone isn't just waiting till the gov't says it's okay to start boinking people of their own sex? Maybe that is just what everyone has been waiting for. You know. Once the gov't gives the go ahead, every single person in the U.S. can breathe a big sigh of relief, quit with the hetero thing and the raising children thing, and finally
shack up with their "best friend" from college. And when they do that, sperm and eggs will cease to exist (somehow), thus rendering the entire population unable to reproduce!!! No more children, ever! That will be pretty dire, as there are only 6 billion people on the planet. What will we do? And where did all the sperm and eggs go?
You know, I'm suprised we even have any people here at all, since there have been gay people from the dawn of time. How did we all get here, do you think? Xenu? Magical animation of molded clay figures? It's pretty mysterious. I should probably rethink this whole "equal rights for all people" thing. I wouldn't want my beliefs to contribute the cessation of our entire species. That would suck.
