I went and saw "North Country" tonight.

Three words : Norma Rae Brockovich Lite.

I cannot deny the power of the Charlize. She is an incandescent wonder. I love Franny but her performance was her typical - solid, but it was her. Sissy Spacek did fine work. Woody was almost tic free. He can't seem to shake that inbred cross eyed tic. It was just a little formulaic - script wise.

I'd wait for cable or do a bargain matinee. It is a B, I suppose.

Let's not even discuss my horror at having to pay 10 bucks to see a movie.
I haven't paid to see a movie in years.

How can you forget to mention the amazing acting force that is Richard Jenkins? I love him and thought he was fantastic in it. Give him a Best Supporting Actor nod, Academy!!

I normally would never pay to actually see that kind of movie, but with that cast (Sissy, Frances, and Charlize?), I couldn't help it. It was quite good, to my surprise, but that final courtroom scene had me rolling in the aisles and annoying the other audience members with gales of high-pitched laughter.

Yellow or RED?!

Sorry, but that was so unintentionally hilarious that I almost snorted the water I was drinking right out of my nose. I do think Charlize will go down as one of the greatest actresses of all time. She's so good that it's kind of scary, much like Jodie Foster and Susan Sarandon. And it was kind of nice for once to see Woody actually acting normal and not espousing the wonders of weed in British documentaries or making a total ass out of himself with his choice of roles (I'm talking to you, Play It To the Bone).

When I got out of the theater, though, I had half a mind to pop in Fargo when I got home. "Ah, hon, ya got Arby's all over me."

I've been dying to see it, but it's not playing here. I've been obsessed with Murrow since high school.

I went to see Nanny McFee last night. Emma Thompson was excellent!

Taking the kids to see Wallace and Gromit on Wednesday

I saw a good movie last year at the Palm Springs Film Festival: "Hana to Alice" (or "Hana & Alice") directed by Shunji Iwai.

Dude, he's been doing that act on Six Feet Under for 5 seasons. He's good. But, damn, he ain't THAT good.

Or how about the metal finger thing thumping against the box in the courtroom. And the statement being read. As if ! I was laughing too. Strand would wet his pants.

BTW, some of the casting was a little suspect. Did everyone in plant management really need to look ugly and reptilian enough to be sitting in Bush's cabinet ?

ON EDIT -

I saw the Brokeback Mountian preview before this. Lord Have Mercy. As if I don't already have a cowboy/camping/pickup truck fetish ? I want to go to the movies again this weekend just to see this preview one more time.

Yes, I liked it. Especially for the undertone he used, hiding the directing in the surreal setting. It looked like a kind American version of Dogville, less sharp and unforgiving but more human and ironic.

I'm very anxious to see it too. He seriously surprised me as a director. And Academy must give Strathairn an Oscar.

I'm glad to know, she's so talented, it's always a joy for me to see her on the big screen.

Meh, I've never watched Six Feet Under, but I thought he was marvelous in North Country. I was a bit disappointed that they barely gave Sissy anything to do.

Strand loves that melodramatic **** (he loved Cinderella Man, for christ's sake); he'd be crying, not wetting his pants. I did get a huge giggle out of her saying "F*ck you" to that bitch lawyer with her electronic voice box, though.

Did they play the preview for that movie "Jarhead" (which looks to be utter offal)? That made for one of the most awkward moments. The preview I saw seemed pretty gung-ho about war in the Middle East and life in the army, and then they immediately followed it with a preview for George Clooney's new movie "Syriana" about corruption in the oil industry.

You, my friend, are missing out on the finest show produced in the history of television(The first two seasons anyway).

Just peeing over the things that never would be allowed in a real courtroom, is what I meant.

I don't think it is ultmately going to be a gung ho movie.

The Syriana thing looks extremely prophetic. How about Clooney not looking hunky for once ?

I will see Jarhead, just to pant over Jake without clothes. I haven't had a real crush on an actor since I was 6 years old. That guy drives me nuts.

Listen Fiona the far fetched ape woman - you liked that awful commercial genuflect about the girl boxer - so don't hand me that I am sappy

Also, I am going to see Capote right now - a full report will be forthcoming after the subsequent Thai repast

Yeah, Happy Accidents is wonderful. I first discovered Brad Anderson with Session 9, then Next Stop Wonderland.

I really liked The Machinist (not my favorite film by Anderson though). Christian Bale really immersed himself in that role. Losing 65 pounds just to play this walking skeleton of a man. It was hard to watch sometimes and they sure played up that 'shell of man' idea. Bale only ate (1) can of tuna a day and I think a yogurt to drop the weight. Frightening.

I don't either, but they're marketing it as one from what I've seen. And if I have to hear the ****ing "Jesus Walks" song one more time, I don't know what I'll do. But I can guarantee you it will be awful.

Clooney hasn't looked hunky for a long while, if you ask me. I never cared much for him before, but he's been doing a lot of great stuff recently and I'm excitedly awaiting his live version of Network that he's going to do for CBS. It's one of the best movies ever made, so I hope he pulls it off nicely. I'm wondering who will play Howard Beale.

Whatever floats your boat, babe. Looks like you'll be the one squealing for once.
