I have to admit, this is the Stevie I first fell in love with. The Dance clinched it for me, I became an instant megafan when I saw this concert.

However, I would give anything to travel back in time to see her at her most raucous with the Mac...it's a side I haven't seen so of course I'm curious.

The Dance Stevie was the one I fell in love with, too, simply because I wasn't familiar with her previous work! In fact, when I bought the White Album, I was disappointed in the fact they didn't sound more like they did on the Dance (specifically, I'm So Afraid and Landslide). ISA for obvious reasons, lol, but in the case of Landslide the studio version just didn't seem as emotive, and I missed the little improvisation in the middle - "'cause I, I've built my life around you." This is also true for Silver Springs. While the old one is charming, the Dance version is a lot more emotionally powerful. Of course this is all subjective, but I think a lot of people who got hooked by the Dance view that Stevie as the definitive one, as hard as it is for some of you veteran fans to imagine! It is indeed true that you gravitate towards what you hear first, in most cases at least.

I totally agree. From The Dance up to now, is the Stevie period I love more. To see or listen some of her performances in the eighties communicate me a scary and blind sense of loss. The performer she's become after all the pain she had to get through never ceases to amaze me and strikes deeply my heart instead.

Maybe you could start with a job, then take over Europe later? Can I come? Oh, wait, no, I"m a nixfan. we are peaceful, we don't like to become controlling despots of entire continents....at least not usually....

Oh, do I? Are you sure you didn't make that up, cause I don't recall?!
However, I guess now that I think about it, I could, theoretically, be insanely jealous of someone without a job. But that's only cause I have one, if I didn't, i'd be insanely jealous of people with jobs. Unless I was rich. Then I'd be insanely superior to both people with and without jobs. I would laugh, laugh, laugh, because I had so much freedom and money.

That's the typical Nietzsche effect. As Hannah Arendt said, in order to go on living one must try to escape the death involved in perfectionism.

That's cool you've read Hannah Arendt...All I can think of when I hear that is that scene from Party Girl...In the library...."Hannah Arendt! Where is Hannah Arendt!" and then Parker gives the blank eyed snotty stare... ah, Parker, how much I love you...

I love her philosophy, she showed and taught how to forgive and start again. Her books are a constant source of inspiration for me.
