We also live in a country where dominant religious beliefs are passed off on pretty much everyone, regardless of how you personally feel. I know I'm not happy that my tax money goes to fund faith-based initiatives in churches that are run by scumbags, but such is life. So, if we have bigots and religious fundies running the joint, I'll take someone who doesn't agree with gay marriage instead of someone who disagrees with gay marriage and actively tries to prevent it.

I agree - hypothetically, if I think abortion is wrong and it is the taking of a life but realize that that is my opinion and it should not be thrust on any pregnant woman (hence pro choice) - I would not be happy that my tax dollars go to fund abortions. Yet, I have to realize that such is life. Pro-choice people will take everyone being like this as opposed to total non pro choice.

I never asserted that I did. I simply said that I'll take the people who disagree with it but don't actively try to prevent it over the people who disagree with it and do try to prevent.

In any event, I think they are related but I still oppose the DP for minors.
Any woman who gets abortion is going to have to live with the possibility of regretting it, regardless of her age. However, the decision regarding the abortion is directly related to the life of the mother- not the mother's parents, or anyone else for that matter. If a pregnant teen thinks that her life will be ruined from an unwanted pregnancy, no one should be able to stop her. Just because her parents may disagree is meaningless- they're not going to be forced to care for the kid.

Again- this has nothing to do with the idea that punishment should be restrained with regard to young people who may not be able to understand the ramifications of their actions.

I see what you are saying.

I just think it is an impossible thing to do, if that would every arise. I can't see people who oppose homosexuality to vote 'yes' to gay marriage. Everyone has a voice at the polls and they are actively preventing it.....unless they don't vote, in which leads to what you are trying to say.

Back to the topic - I agree with Jason - that you're never ever going to get full and complete acceptance and understanding from everyone - I mean there are still people who think that inter-racial marriage is a sin

I never noticed either - so either Dissention and Ryan (and others) have totally begun to corrupt my mind....or I'm in an uncharacteristically dirty mood

You're right about that. But, isn't it something that you would want to strive for from the people with which you associate in your life as opposed to total strangers?

I will sound like a 60 year old here, but - I used to strive for acceptance. I used to want people to reward me so to speak. But, in my 38 years on this rock, I have learned that only I can do that. Sure it is nice when others do it - everyone likes that. But, I like me a whole lot more and that is all the acceptance I need. I am not sure I am describing this correctly
