I used to be a total eyeglasse snob. I LOVE Oliver Peoples and Matsuda (sp.?) - But - though I still do, I got over it I usually get Zeiss lenses though as their reputation is good and they are thinner than normal lenses. But, my eyesight is not that bad at -1.50 in the left and -1.25 in the right. I really need glasses only to see little things far away.

Robert Morgan Special of the Week - 1980
(about a job he had to get after Buckingham Nicks flopped) "That was very embarrassing too cause as you can tell I'm pretty soft spoken. I got this job trying to sell advertising space. I had to get up at five in the morning to call back east...and uh..'Hi, this is, uh,' and you'd give a fake name and give the name of the directory and you'd say 'would you like to renew this year?' and half the people would say, 'oh, sure if we had it last year' and you'd write them down, but there had not been the directory the year before. It was such a scam, I couldn't believe it. I couldn't take that for more than a month, I just got, uh, too traumatized. I just wasn't cut out for that type of thing."

Well, he IS soft spoken and not a smooth talker. He was smart to leave especially since it was such a scam!
Lindsey seems a bit anti-social and he did not seem to have marketable skills so really what was he going to do?

As for Stevie working I think that she would have been bored staying at home. She seems to be social and probably enjoyed working with people to a certain extent. I am sure that she used her flirting skills to get a few good tips, too.

I would have to say that I can identify with Lindsey in a way. I worked for a financial institution about 10 years ago. I only worked part time to make a few extra bucks and I was very good at what I did. Well, the manager of that branch could not find anything wrong with my job performance so she told me that 'I needed to talk and get more friendly with the customers". I was like :excuse me?" What would you like me to do?" Have dinner with them?
It was crazy. You are not supposed to talk too much and carry on a conversion at a bank. I never did at any other bank that I worked at before.
She constantly harassed me about it. I really think that she just did not like me because I was good at what I did and everyone else praised me so she needed to find away to make me feel bad.
Well, it did hurt and I left. I found a much better job (where I work now) a few months later and that bank ended up getting swallowed up by another larger bank. I don't know what happened to that beyotch but I hope that they got rid of her!

Ok that's enough of my story, now.

I know this thread is old, but I was just on here looking around. I have to say that you are right. Stevie has always said that she was happy with him practicing his guitar. From what I've read & watched in interviews, she said that she got sick a lot in that time as well, but she never held it against Lindsey.

lol. i'm hoping Catdancer was speaking tongue-in-cheek because that's exactly what Stevie said may times, just it was "smoking dope and playing guitar". i don't think she really bitched about it, but she did say it, over and over again.

but then it turned out he was actually doing guitar gigs, painting, and who knows what else.

How do you know about his aunt? That's interesting.

yeah, he used that money to buy recording equipment for BN. i'm sure someone will have some quotes / references... i don''t remember whether it was an aunt but the story goes he got this unexpected inheritance that helped him to get started towards his producing endeavors.

We know he toured with Waddy and Warren and was making a little money as a player then (and that's why they were in Aspen when Stevie wrote Landslide, they were staying at a friend's house, because Lindsey was on the road). In that Warren Zevon book a guy said that when Lindsey told him that he'd been asked to join Fleetwood Mac, the guy said, "Why would you want to do that? When you're making $400 a week now?"

Plus, Stevie has said that when she left Lindsey and went back up north, she ran out of money and had to come back and eat humble pie to move back in with him. So, he and Richard were obviously paying the rent somehow in her absence.

And he told Charlie Rose that the money he inherited lasted them a little while, so he didn't spend the whole 10K on music equipment. I think he had money dribbling in, even if he didn't have a consistent job like Stevie did.

Here's the excerpt from the Warren Zevon book I was talking about.

Eddie Ponder said:

Quote:
We were booked into the Cellar Door for two weeks. The first day we had a sound check and Lindsey and I decided to walk a few blocks down the street to get something to eat. We were just going to hang out in the dressing room until showtime. drinking those big cans of Foster's. While we're walking down the street, Lindsey says, "I just got a call from Fleetwood Mac and they want me to join their band." I said, "Lindsey are you out of your mind? You're making four hundred and fifty dollars a week, we've got all your expenses paid, you're working with stars. Why would you want to do that?"

and he toured with the Everly Brothers... as a bass player.

I believe they were in Aspen relative to the Everlys tour. I have Stevie talking about it on tape somewhere...

Yes. Stevie said that the way she harmonized she felt she was an original Everly Brother and she didn't understand why she wasn't on tour too. Based on the Zevon book I think the Aspen house belonged to the Zevon family. Michele
