What do you mean, a whole new style? I don't love Quaid much anyway, unless he's in a sex scene in The Big Easy... that once...

Far From Heaven is a throwback to the old Hollywood dramas. You know how they acted back in those days, like they were onstage but not projecting as much? That's how the cast was in it. The titles are old-style, the lighting, the colors, etc.

Ok, but wouldn't she only have to act that way if she was playing an actress? I mean, real people didn't talk that way, did they? how weird.

Well, yes they did. People then were FAR more civil and actually went out of their way to be polite to one another. The public discourse reflected that. Granted racism was horrid and all that, which was horrible and I am glad has changed - such is the issue of the movie. But, my point about the language is people today simply for the most part cannot fathom the level of civility that existed until IMO the end of the 70's once the neocons began the take over. I realize times change, but civility was the cost in this case.

Anyway - sorry for the ramble

I kind of meant...they didn't talk as if they were onstage and had to project and all that. I enjoyed your point, though!

Yeah, that's how they acted back then, as if they were performing in front of an audience but not acting for them. It's hard to explain, but see the movie and you'll get it. It resembles a 50s movie in the style, titles, clothes, acting, pretty much everything.

Rent a Susan Hayward movie or an old Joan Crawford flick, you'll see what I mean. She took on that style of acting in Far From Heaven.

The Color Purple, one of the best movies ever, IMO. I also thought A.I. was very good. Didn't he direct that? I know alot of people thought it was crap, but I don't know what it was, it really had an affect on me. It was just sooo sad.

I agree, I loved Bridget Jones 2. First one is my all time favorite movie. I've seen it probably more than 50 times. The books were ok - the second one was a bit lacking IMO, but I think the movie did well with what it had. Plus, in all my shallowness, I'm in love with Colin Firth and will watch pure trash if I get to see him

Far from Heaven is a great movie. It made me a nervous wreck, though. I almost had to turn it off a few times. It was so troubling, and there was no gratuitious sex or violence or anything. The dialogue is chilling.

I don't know why he would be unhappy... he did work alongside with Joel Schumacer (sp?).

Personally, I'm grateful that Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum got their respected roles... folks, it could've been worse...

Try John Travolta singing "The Music of the Night"... yikes!

P.S.: Webber actually chose Schumacer (sp?) to be the director. Guess he trusted him...

I consider myself to be a huge fan of 'Phantom,' and I'm not disappointed (or did you mean a huge fan of Crawford?).

If anything, I'm disappointed that the film wasn't made when Sarah was still young enough to play the part.

But time marches on, and it's hard to play an ingenue when you're in your 40s. And it's hard to play an ingenue's love interest when you're 62.

I like the casting, and I hope the movie is a success.

By the way, if they're still trying to cast the role of Rhoda in the 'Bad Seed,' I'd like to suggest the freaky little blond girl that lives up the block from me. I swear I once saw that kid using some sidewalk chalk to outline a murder plot.

Ahh, the 'Phantom Of The Paradise'... I saw that once when I was about 15. Talk about a weird movie! I liked it though... quite a bit.

Would love to see it again.

Not to mention the fact that, while Patti is an extremely talented singer, her style is too bombastic for the big screen.
A contemporary film adaption of a musical requires, in my opinion, a more intimate style of singing. There's no need to play to the balcony.

I think Madonna was the right choice. So there.

But, maybe when I see the whole thing, I will like it better. Who knows? You can go here for a trailer http://phantomthemovie.warnerbros.com/
Like I said, I was disappointed when I first listened to the streaming audio of the highlights disc, but once I had the actual full soundtrack and listened to the songs in context (and on a much better sound system than my dinky little PC speakers), I was VERY impressed and that much more enthusiastic about seeing the film.

Of course, some people will still dislike it... I mean, I think it would be impossible for everyone to love it, for a variety of reasons.
