Just based on what Krista and Paula have said, I'm thinking that prices aren't that dramatically different across the U.S. per se, until you get somewhere like Boston, as Josh has shown me. And I'm still in shock about that. I find this very interesting. One of the professors I know when to San Francisco recently and was in complete shock about the prices of apartments there. She said that one that would be around $500 a month here was $2500 there. There's no way I could just pick up and move there if I wanted to.

You should what houses in the Pacific Heights area of San Francisco go for.

Not without having 5 roommates in a one bedroom! That's what some people wind up doing. It really sucks.

My rent is $1300 for a 2 bedroom but it should be at least $1600 for the area. With the central artery down (Big Dig) and the parks being put in it is just going to skyrocket. I hope my landlord doesn't decide to sell! But if she does, I bet she'll make a killing.

Yep, it's twue. It's a bit cheaper here, across the bay, but still expensive. For instance, the studio below my porch is now renting for, like, $800. My one bedroom is $663 - I'm lucky cause i've been here five years....

Big Dig.

The two most heinous words in the English language. -_-

No crap, they worked on that f*cking thing for 20 years and it's an absolute mess. Channel seven has dubbed it the "Big Lie".

The first time I read this I thought you wrote that the porch below your studio was $800. I thought, "Wow, that's a LITTLE ridiculous. "

Just spotted this thread. I've attached a picture of our house. It's nothing special... 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, kitchen, living room and dining room. We have a mortgage and houses are ridiculously expensive in the UK. We pay around £650 (around $1200) a month and this fluctuates with interest rates. And we certainly don't live in an expensive area or city. Go further south and the prices rocket.

I own my house, bought it in 1998: 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 2-car garage, fireplace, pool and lovely backyard...I'm about 15 minutes from downtown Austin - about 12 minutes from where I work, so I usually come home for lunch every day. I live alone, but do have a kitty! So it's a lot of work, but I do enjoy it. In fact, it's a beautiful day - I should be outside RIGHT NOW getting my hands in the dirt and planting flowers and stuff....instead of wasting my time on message boards....

Lightbulb I'm following Pip exactly. LOL

Here is our house. That's the day it snowed around 2 inches or so, on Valentine's Day in 2003!
