When I was a kid I was taken to see Queen - they were still unknown, just released Seven Seas of Rye, and were supporting David Bowie!

I saw them again not long after and they were headlining in their own right, having reached No 1 in the charts with Killer Queen.

I was right at the front of the stage, sitting on some blokes shoulders, and the Great God Mercury shook my hand!

Two fantastic choices. Surfacing is a gorgeous album and The Globe Sessions is my favourite Sheryl one.

I wish Lindsey knew this, that his music makes a difference. That is so moving.

If I remember right, he wrote that not long after the passing of his father. The album just pulled me through. I wish I could tell him.

On Lindsey's forum we are always going on about him possibly lurking and reading our threads - well, your post is definitely the one I wish he might read. I am so pleased that beautiful album helped you.

Good choice.

Fumbling Towards Ecstasy will always be my favorite from her, but Surfacing has some really great, and underrated songs.

I like fumbling as well, but surfacing was the first one I bought and I absolutely love it still.

I'm pretty sure Lindsey's dad passed away before he & Stevie joined Fleetwood Mac . And, I think that it was his brother's death in '90 that brought up all those feelings about losing his dad that went into the underlying theme of Out Of The Cradle.

Hey, why don't you? You could call the thread "Lindsey, if you're lurking........" and start it up on his forum.

I think though, that if we all posted our own special messages to him quite a number of them would get quickly shifted to the TMI thread in ChitChat

You could be right. I don't completely keep up.

He's got more talent as a musician/singer/songwriter/producer than any one person I can think of. He's the whole picture, a whole talent. And he's one of the most prolific and varied artists I know too. I will admit in some ways I enjoy having Joseph as my private pleasure, though. It makes the music seem even more personal to me.

Madonna: Bedtime Stories. I really hate this album is glossed over because of it's successor, Ray Of Light. To me, this is probably Madonna's most honest, real work. And I think the way it slowly transitions from being an R&B album, to a very existential, ethereal, almost Spanish influenced album as it wraps up is just so genius. It's such an unlikely transition, but it is still striking to hear every single time I listen to the album.

Sheryl Crow: Wildflower. This album was pretty much universally lampooned, even by Sheryl fans, and it didn't sell very well compared to it's predecessors. I still stand by my opinion that it was absolutely the perfect album for Sheryl to make at the perfect time. And it's tremendously enjoyable as a folksy concept album to boot.

Amy Winehouse: Back To Black. Yes, over 10 million people have bought this album, and Amy's a bona fide superstar because of it. But do you ever hear anyone discuss the music? The album is sublime. Amy's the real deal... she just oozes talent. This one album single handedly sparked a revival in roots-style Soul and R&B. And for just reason... it's THAT good. I hate Amy's personal problems have wholly overshadowed her immense talent.
Louie, I've always had a slight fondness for Madonna, but I'd never heard Bedtime Stories. On a whim (and based on your post), I went out and bought a copy, and I've become completely obsessed with it. I think 'Bedtime Story' and 'Take a Bow' are two of the best singles she's ever released. I even stayed up and watched 'Truth or Dare' on YouTube last night. I'm holding you accountable for this new obsession.

So - what are those albums that you love and can never believe that others don't know and love like you do??

A lot of mine arise from the fact that I like so much music that isn't mainstream/popular/known at all in the UK so apologies if people here don't think ther're really random.

There are a few albums that I always try and get people to listen to but my first instincts are either:

Judee Sill - Judee Sill (1972),
Kylie Minogue - Impossible Princess (1997)
The Alice Band - The Love Junk Store (2002).
Aimee Mann - Bachelor No. 2 or The Last Remain Of The Dodo (1999)

Here's a track from each of them:

Judee Sill - Lady O (She gave it to The Turtles then released her own version)

Kylie Minogue - Did It Again (really hard to choose one from this album but I just love this video!)

The Alice Band - Nothing On But The Radio (a real favourite!)
These girls only had the one album in 2002 and then disappeared without a trace!

Aimee Mann - Red Vines (Album version is better but couldn't find it on youtube)

Ok - thoughts??
I love that you cite Aimee Mann! She is one of the unsung greats! I love her and have seen her many times! And it's great that you have such deep musical knowlege to reference Judee Sill! Very obscure. Wow!

In addition to some great albums already listed, here are 5 that I don't think have been mentioned.

Mary Chapin Carpenter - Stones in the Road
Lyle Lovett - Pontiac
Johnny Clegg and Savuka - Cruel Crazy Beautiful World
Kim Richey - Kim Richey
Cheryl Wheeler - Mrs. Pinocci's Guitar
