Vanessa says in another video from a previous night that this song was written by Linda Perry and Steven Jenkins. She also talks a bit about Stevie recording the harmonies for the album:

I also love the glasses somment.

As for the song, I am not wild about VC - but, she is talented and La Nicks adds to the song. I can't wait for the released version.
I listened to the short clip yesterday and didn't really get it. But after watching the full clip today, I really dig it. I can't wait for the released version either.

It does sound very much like that. It's weird how she can still sound like 30 something years later. Those little moments never cease to amaze me. This is kind of OT but along the same line. I was watching Classic Albums on VH1 and Elton John sat at his piano (recently) and sang the first verse of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in it's original key. I got the shivers. Of course he then stopped playing, laughed and said he can't sing it that way anymore because it's so high. It kind of reminded my of those rare moments when I hear Stevie's voice today and recognize something from 25-30 years ago. I remember back when I saw her on the Whole Lotta Trouble tour and she was singing Talk To Me and I thought she wasn't gonna go for those big notes toward the end of the song. You know, the part where she goes
I can see your expression when the phone rings
And I can see that you're thinkin' bout the same things
Is it all that hard
Is it all that tough
Well, you've taken all there is now baby
Isn't that enough

and she totally nailed it. I was stunned and elated.

Stephan Jenkins of Third Eye Blind? Isn't/wasn't he her boyfriend? Thank you for the mp3 by the way.

That makes sense. One of the blog postings in the other thread mentions him as Vanessa's "long-time beau," but other than that I have no idea. I still get Vanessa confused with Michelle Branch, and if I hear "Semi-Charmed Life" one . more . frikkin' . time ...

And you're welcome. I just checked the sendspace link, and it seems to be working again.

after seeing it again, I'm starting to look forward to the real version. I think they're cute together, and maybe VC is a shot in the arm for Stevie. I love the fact that Stevie comes out in gigantic bifocal glasses, and sheet music...out of her element...and just does it. Very cool.

I don't. I think 's poignant and that she looks like she's reflecting on the women musicians thriving in part because of her legacy. I think her support of these artists shows her class. And at least she picks the ones that write their own songs and not the Britney's or "Idol" types.

I'm not sure why you think it's odd. I have had contacts for nearsightedness for over 20 years. I'm sure it's quite common.

It is. That's what I was trying to express in in earlier post, that even though I wear contacts that correct my nearsightedness, I still have to wear reading glasses over the contacts to read. I thought my optometrist (who's like 30) was just being snarky a few years back when he asked my how old I was. When I told him 40, his immediate response was that soon I was going to see some changes in my vision and would probably want to get a pair of reading glasses. Hmmph. About six months ago, to my horror I realized that I couldn't read the fine print on labels anymore whether I held them far away or up close. Then I realized my optometrist wasn't being snarky at all, just warning me of the inevitable. So I bought myself some reading glasses. I'd bet that this is the case with Stevie as well.

I have that version and the beginning is different. There is no timpani at the beginning. Also if I remember correctly, the I can see you running part at the end is a little more prominent? My guess is the record company sent a different take to Time/Life without realizing it. Or maybe Stevie wanted that one to get out because she liked it better? In any case, we got a nice little bonus. I always put this version of Talk To Me on my mix CD's.

Not odd, just wondering if it existed. I know that most people that wear reading glasses for nearsightedness can't see anything beyond 3 feet in front of them when they're wearing them. I was just wondering if contacts had the same effect and would therefore be required to be taken out everytime you stop reading.

Envious of what? A singer who will never reach the heights Stevie has reached? I don't think so.

It's been everywhere that Stevie's going to sing background vocals on this song on Vanessa's new album... EVERYWHERE.

I liked the improptu feel of it, everytime Stevie sings backing vocals she gives me great emotions, I'm looking forward to the recorded version. I don't get what's so wrong in this performance (luckily, or I'd be worried) as all the glasses fuss, she looks great with them, IMO.
