Oh yeah - we were talking about two different articles - I brought up the thread starting article...but yeah -that's not the source that talks about the tapes.

I'll just be interested to see how this whole thing plays out. If she is exaggerating (I do believe there is some truth to this - as has been said re: the drinking and verbal abuse) she picked the wroooong man to try to take down.

A NEW wrinkle:

Heather Mills McCartney sues newspapers

By TARIQ PANJA, Associated Press Writer Tue Oct 24, 2:45 PM ET

LONDON - Heather Mills McCartney's lawyers said Tuesday she is suing two newspapers over "false, damaging and immensely upsetting" stories surrounding her divorce from Paul McCartney.

The law firm Mishcon de Reya named the Daily Mail and London's Evening Standard as the subject of legal proceedings, adding that a suit will also be filed against The Sun.

Mills McCartney had been vilified in the media and was now being stalked by photographers, the firm said. It alleged that other newspapers had also printed false statements but the three listed would be the focus of the lawsuit.

"She cannot sue — for now, at least — every single newspaper that has published false, damaging, and immensely upsetting statements about her. She should not thereby be taken to have accepted that these statements are true," the statement read.

Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the Daily Mail and the Evening Standard, said the stories about Mills McCartney in both papers "were obtained by proper methods and in accordance with good journalistic practice."

"Our exclusive stories were extensively followed up in detail by all other newspapers and media outlets," it said in a statement. The publisher said it would deal with the legal claim "in the normal way."

The McCartney divorce has become the most sensational marital breakup since
Prince Charles and Princess Diana parted ways a decade ago, sparking immense rivalry in the British press for the best scoop.

Last week, the Daily Mail splashed its front page with what appeared to be legal papers drafted by Mills McCartney's lawyers against the former Beatle that alleged drug use, drunkenness, callousness about his wife's amputated leg, indifference to her pain, and even an assault with a broken wine glass.

Mills McCartney's lawyers said British media claims that she has been offered a $56 million settlement by her husband are false and "the truth is that no settlement offer, in any amount, has been made."

"She is pursued everywhere she goes. She is stalked by press photographers, who congregate outside her home and chase after her in cars — regardless of her safety or the safety of her daughter," her lawyers said.

Mishcon de Reya issued a copy of a letter, apparently from The Mail on Sunday's investigations editor Dennis Rice, offering Heather's sister Fiona a "substantial sum" for information about the divorce.

It said the letter was hand-delivered and promised anonymity.

"It requires no imagination to conclude what kind of information was being sought from our client's closest confidante, nor why the assurance of confidentiality was believed to be necessary," the statement said. "We ask on behalf of our client for the media, as a matter of common decency, please now to show some restraint."

Associated Newspapers said the Mail on Sunday had been "led to believe that Fiona Mills had important information about this case and a perfectly proper and courteous approach was made to her."

well well well.............comments anyone?

^^

Yes - I STILL think it's bogus - of COURSE she's going to sue - but she still won't win...she doesn't have a leg to stand on as the saying goes.

I really think this will come out in the end - her psychosis will come out in the end....

Oh...and the timing of this? Her accusations came out right as Paul was going to push for custody of Beatrice. Shifty. It's bullsh*t and I believe Heather is a lying slag.

Yep...we'll definitely have to wait and see...Heather's own father has said she's bonkers....as have various other sources - the gal is going to get her ass handed to her.

So we'll have to agree to disagree where one HEather Mills is concerned.

Happy day for you, irishgrl?

Remember, this is the same woman who announced she was going to sue several newspapers for their reports about an impending separation of the McCartneys, while her husband was already preparing a press statement

Oh, and Heather being hurt and defamed by lies? Pot, kettle, black.

I am not sure what your point is, I didnt expect this new development, tho Im sure all the Heather haters probably saw it in their crystal ball.....woo fricking hoo.

I only posted it as another chapter in the continuing saga, and FYI, I dont have a stake in the outcome, nor am I rooting for any particular person. I made my position clear a page or two back, that nobody is ALL bad and there are two sides to every story and I couldnt understand all the INSTANT Heather hatred. I am actually pretty neutral about the whole thing so if you're insinuating Im getting some sort of charge out of this, you are grossly mistaken.

A comment in general, inspired by this latest reply:

What's wrong with some of you over here? Being snarky all the time, not the slightest sense of humour and irony even when a thousand "LOLs" and smilies decorate one's post just to make sure that no one will be offended and hurt, and readily lashing out/accepting apologies whilst being unable to say sorry yourselves - it's really getting silly.

As a side note, sometimes people do not even take the time to even read the posts *carefully* but nevertheless a harsh response is posted quickly, because instant b****ng seems to be so much nicer than thinking about the writer's intentions and a respectful reply for a minute. This sublime aggression and quick temper in many threads is really starting to grate on my nerves.

I finally understand why some people are hesitant or no longer willing to post over here, if even the silliest topic about a troubled pop star is handled without the slightest intention of discussing it with an occasional dash of humour or at least the intention of accepting that *other* people try to see a more light-hearted aspect in it.

You don't have to share my kind of humour (which is perfectly alright), but it's a pity that apparently you can't even detect it and answer adequately without resorting to b****y undertones.

a) your post sounded snarky to ME and all the smileys in the world wont dress THAT up.

b) your "general comment" sounded even snarkier and is a prime example of the pot calling the kettle black.

so, just what did you MEAN by "happy days irishgrl" if you werent being snarky, hmmm?

btw, if you thought my previous reply was bitchy, you aint seen NOTHING yet.

If you don't take the time to get to know me better, then that is your problem. And as far as your childish little threat at the end is concerned, you can talk to your child like that. You're not the only adult here.

I'm interested in having good talks with you (and you seem to have a lot to offer in that department) but I won't justify myself for what I've written (whether you get me and my post right or not) and I won't let a grown-up woman talk to me like I was still in elementary school. Practice that on someone else.

I calls em like I sees em. If you're going to post a snarky comment, dont whine because someone calls you on it. And you didnt fool anyone with all your smileys. You get what you give, plain and simple.

If you want to have a good talk, try presenting your point in an ADULT manner, rather than one that you know is provocative. I dont need to justify myself to YOU either. When you treat me with respect, you'll get the same back.

ps: I didnt threaten you. I was just pointing out that I didnt feel my previous replies were actually bitchy--especially by Ledge standards. Possibly you are being oversensitive? Or maybe even too judgemental? Yep I think thats it.
