I think Wolfgang Puck's soup is terrible. I couldn't decide if it was the flavor mixes he uses, which aren't regular, or what. But after I tried it 3 times I couldn't risk finding out the answer anymore. I don't think I have a very adventurous soup pallette.
Here's a quick soup recipe that was given to me by a health fanatic that is really good and pretty cheap.
  • Chic Peas (aka Garbanzo Beans) - canned or pre-soaked
  • Chicken Broth
  • Kale
  • Curry
Just throw everything together and heat it up!

It's kind of like a weird cross between Romaine lettuce, cabbage & celery.

I'll bet it's one of those greens that goes into those fancy gourmet salads.

I think so, shh!

My favorite dessert in the world is key lime pie. So, V-Day Dinner was the cream of mushroom soup w/ garlic bread, breaded chicken breasts stuffed with parmesan cheese and mushrooms, and a key lime pie with fresh whipped cream. From scratch. There's nothing hotter than watching your very masculine boyfriend make a pie crust from scratch.

The low-sodium broths are definitely an improvement in the sodium department, but even they have 300 to 500 mgs per serving (with what? 2 servings per can?).

My mom used to plop a giant hamhock in a huge pot of lentils. They were good. I'm suprised no one else mentioned lentils here, they are extremely nutritious and very filling compared to a lot of soups. They are also cheap.
I eat a full bag of lentils just about every week, thanks to my faux chopped liver recipe! It looks like chopped liver, it smells like chopped liver & it even tastes like chopped liver. But it's only lentils, caramelized onions & hard-boiled eggs! I will provide my recipe shortly.

I'm a chopped liver fanatic but I didn't want all that saturated fat all the time, so I limit my real chopped liver intake to once a month or so, & now I eat my faux chopped liver day after day!! It's great on whole-wheat bread with raw spinach epaulets! YUM!!

Sounds good! Of course, one of my favorite soups is albondigas soup in a hacienda-style Mexican restaurant like Don Jose's.

I also adore raw eel soup from Eiichi's. My mouth is watering now!!

Ah, the irony. I'm curious about the second pic in your sig. What is it?

Paula, I have to say, coming from Texas, that if I saw a bowl of chili that had elbow macaroni in it, well, I think my reaction would be something like this: then maybe this:

Rock on 3 alarm chili with no beans!

Chili cook-offs are one of my favorite things in the summer...yes, the summer when it's 100 in the shade with 80% humidity , ah well, at least there's free beer.
