Jayne, I don't have much to say but I know how you're feeling and I feel badly for you. You'll probably feel better in a few days and try to look forward toward February when Stevie's coming again.

Bingo. It's a photo of a bad memory, not a good one. What did McManus say, exactly?

I will say that se was around 1.5metres away from me for ages, i spoke with her assistant karen for a while though she didn't want to input in the conversation. Umm i did speak with Stevie i know that. And i told her i was nervous. Um did get 2 pics, one didn't really turn out. Andrew said i was strictly only aloud one and got angry when i asked dale to take two. That upset me. Got nothing signed, knew not to ask. She was in the same room as me for 30mins...

Im really upset at the moment because i didn't get to tell her anything, i didn't get to obtain a signature, didn't get to ask her any of your or my questions... And i spent a lot of energy on today.

I'm sorry you felt like this, but I think it's very common. Sometimes meeting someone you admire so much can be a blissful experience and some other times, the time slows down or goes incredibly fast, mind goes numb, you'd like to say so much, but thoughts don't seem to take a shape, the celebrity seems tired or distant, someone is rude, not because of you, but just to put boundaries, and doesn't realize how negative it's his behaviour in that moment. But in some time, the feelings' knot would become less heavy, and the photo would bring many more positive emotions too, I'm sure.

Thank you Janet...

I think your right, i did have high expectations, and i couldn't seem to force them to dwindle.. i knew i had to but i just couldn't.

Thank you goldenbraid: you are right, i think i will feel better in a few days. Just this morning and yesterday especially i have felt so down. Im feeling a bit better today, just coz im at work and speaking with people and it distracts me. But the nights are horrible. The what ifs and regrets creep in.

Photo's in 6hrs

Expectations can never be too high...personally, I don't think that yours were. A few minutes of light conversation, a photo - an autograph...to me is not asking the world. It doesn't appear by your posts that you were expecting to become one of the "inner circle" or that you would walk away as Stevie's best friend...you just wanted a "moment' and don't feel bad about being let down. Noone has the right to treat you poorly. This McManus person for all his imagined power is obviously an ungracious fool...never get upset by his ilk they thrive on making others feel "common". As to Stevie - she probably didn't even know what was going on. I love her music and I've loved listening to it for many, many years but I really never even wonder nor care what she would be like in person. That's not where my interest is... I guess I like to imagine she'd be a nice person - but in the end as long as she entertains and delivers her part of our relationship (her music)..it's all good. Be happy you had the moment and a picture and try to just forget all of the other insanity. It sounds like you handled yourself with dignity which makes you a far better person than most that were there by the sounds of it. Can't wait to see your picture and I'm sure someday you will cherish it...and even laugh at the whole thing...

Oh, Jayne, I'm so sorry about all this. It sounds like it wasn't necessarily Stevie who disappointed you, but the other people who were there. And I completely agree - they ruined it for you. You wanted it to be perfect, but even before you were face to face with Stevie, your confidence was blown and you were feeling insecure. That's just so awful. People can be mean - especially people who think they deserve privilege more than others. I don't know the horse race business at all, but it does sound like one that involves people of great riches and snobbery. They probably get off on nothing more than making someone feel beneath them.

Again, try not to feel too down. Look at your pictures and just feel happy that you got to see Stevie and even shake her hand (which I assume you did?). What did Stevie say to you? One other thing - maybe Stevie felt nervous and out of her element, too. Maybe she didn't expect to be meeting fans. It all could have affected her behaviour, too.

Chin up - and I say try for the backstage passes. It's a chance at a whole different experience - and you have nothing to lose for trying.

thank you Kristin, i needed that. I guess id like to tell her how much i have enjoyed her music and that it still matters to so many people who dont have the opportunity to tell her. It has touched people who are her age and has made its way right into my heart and im 24. It mattered to me to tell her what her music means to me. That is why i went, to tell her that, not to get a photo, nor an autograph, but to tell her that

She knows Jayne, that's what has kept her great all these years...you are so young and a class act too - good for you!! You will get the chance again - I really believe that!! I didn't realize you could possibly have a chance at back-stage passes - go for it!! Don't let bullies like McManus take that away from you and if you meet her in her element - it will probably go a lot differently!!

I felt this way after just a couple of concerts where I got to shake her hand. It was indescribable. It was a kind of sadness that the concert was through and I barely remembered the Edge walk and when she leaned over to shake my hand.

It's just these high hopes that are normal for anyone to have going into something like this, and unfortunately it usually turns out to be a disappointment. If I were ever given the opportunity to meet her, I would probably be ultra-pessimistic going in so that I would have no hopes that could be squelched.

And somewhere in the back of my mind, any time I find myself getting too excited over a celebrity, I kind of correct myself and say, "Big deal - they have talent but also had to have a lot of lucky breaks and connections." Bottom line is they're the same as all of us at the end of the day. They just happen to have fame and more money. They're not gods and goddesses, not immortal, not immune to failure, etc. Mind you, I'm a pessimist by nature, so this may not come easy to optimists.

Not sure if this rambling makes sense, but I get how you're feeling. This McManus jerk is obviously like most executive "suits" - fat and egotistical. Don't let it get you down, and I can't wait to see your picture.

Gack, this reminds me of the time I drove 2,000 miles to meet Mark Wahlberg. It was an expensive trip too. When I got there, his personal assistant - the one who invited me, acted like he barely knew who I was and we had been chatting on line for weeks prior to the event. Mark and his entourage were whisked to the VIP room and nobody else was allowed. When he came out, I sheepishly asked if he would mind posing for a photo with me and he said he couldn't, they had to leave. I cried that night in the hotel room. On the drive home I felt sick and depressed. So I totally know what you're going thru. I know the next time something comes up like this for you, you won't have any trouble squelching those high expectations cuz they won't be there. Several months after my Mark ordeal, I had front row for a Stevie concert and I had NO expectations. I was pleasantly suprised that she spoke 6 whole words to me when I handed her a necklace. Of course I could say nothing in return, just smiled. I guess that's the other side of not having any expectations... you get blind sided! Oh well... can't wait to see your picture. I have pics I took of Mark even tho he wouldn't pose with me... and I love them now. But there was a time when they used to sting.

Hugs,
Laura

I hope you feel better soon Jayne. One of the worst things about meeting Stevie is you always come away wanting more. It's never enough... Sorry you have to experience some nastiness from the people around her. Maybe they just didn't expect a fan to be in the tent? Still no reason for them to be nasty to you.
