Liam Gallagher has promised his Beatles film will be "mega".The Beady Eye rocker is working on a movie about the British musical legends, and although he hasn't cast anyone or secured rights to use the group's music, he thinks fans will enjoy the biopic. He said: "It's not started yet but it's going to be mega. Script's finished, we're just waiting to tie things up with Apple to see if we can use some of their tunes. And then we'll be able to see what kind of actors we want to get. But it's gonna happen, definitely, next year."

Morrissey, Beatles muse Shelagh Delaney dies aged 71

Playwright provided inspiration for tracks by The Smiths and the Fab Four
Morrissey and The Beatles' muse, the writer Shelagh Delaney, has died aged 71.According to CBSNews, Delaney died at her daughter's home after a battle with cancer just a few days prior to her 72nd birthday. Morrissey – who grew up close to Delaney's hometown of Salford, Manchester – has often paid tribute to the playwright by referencing works from her canon in his lyrics throughout his career in tracks such as 'Reel Around The Fountain'.
The Smiths' song 'This Night Has Opened My Eyes' borrowed its narrative from Delaney's first play 'A Taste Of Honey', while her face also appears on the cover of the band's 1987 compilation album 'Louder Than Bombs'.The Beatles, meanwhile, were also fans of Delaney and showed their appreciation for her by recording their own version of the theme from the 1961 film adaptation of 'A Taste Of Honey'.

A Guide to 12 Acoustic Guitar-Based Tracks on The Beatles' 'White Album'

From the earliest days, the Beatles prominently featured the acoustic guitar on their recordings.Whether used as a rhythm instrument ("Love Me Do," "P.S. I Love You," "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away") or in a more ambitious context ("And I Love Her," "Michelle," "Norwegian Wood"), the acoustic was always an integral and interesting part of the group's sound. But on The Beatles, the 1968 double album universally known as the "White Album," the band elevated the acoustic guitar to an even higher plane. In addition to such bona fide acoustic masterpieces as "Blackbird" and "Julia," the record features a whole slew of songs that contain no electric guitar whatsoever.

Would the Real Drummer on "Please Please Me" Please Please Stand Up ?

Most Fab Four fans are aware that "Please Please Me" was the Beatles' second 7” single release in the UK, and arguably their first number one record. The track, along with its flip side "Ask Me Why," was recorded on November 26, 1962, exactly 49 years ago this week. We all know that the single featured the now familiar line-up of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr on drums, and followed the shaky start of their debut UK single "Love Me Do."

The Night the Beatles Met Elvis - the Greatest Gig You Never Saw

A world where 'celebrities' clamour for media attention like orange-hued Oliver Twists around a bowl of camel foot-infused gruel, here's a salutary lesson from some genuine superstars. Please, please me by allowing me to take you back to one night in 1965. The 27 August, in fact, and it was an august night indeed, for this was the night when the King of Rock'n'Roll met the monarchs of Merseybeat for the first, and only, time. But - gasp - the media was banned. No photographs or recordings were made of this momentous night, which included an impromptu jamming session, far less any twisting or shouting about it. Lawdy, Miss Clawdy."If there had been, they'd be priceless today," Tony Barrow tells me. He was the Beatles' press officer between 1962 and 1968, and one of the few witnesses to that memorable get-together. "It's a terrible shame that a unique jam session has been lost forever."

Outfits to be worn by volunteers and organisers have a military theme, with colour-coded epaulettes to identify different groups. The Olympics uniforms to be worn by 70,000 volunteers and 6,000 staff next summer are influenced by the Grenadier Guards, the Beatles and Henley regatta, according to London 2012 organisers. The Adidas outfits for the so-called Games Makers and London organising committee staff unveiled on Tuesday have a vaguely military theme, with colour-coded epaulettes to identify different groups, and large coloured cuffs.

Classic Albums Live musicians take the stage to pay homage to the Beatles

Imagine being a 50-something rock and roller and being able to hear all the great albums you grew up with performed exactly the way they were originally recorded. Now, picture your parents sitting in the hall with you because they, too, loved a lot of the same great bands of the '60s and '70s rock era. Then there are your kids, to whom you taught a deep respect for the genius of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Who.There they are -- the typical audience demographics -- one great throng of the pre, post and Woodstock generation gathered together whenever and wherever the musicians of Classic Albums Live perform. This Friday evening the masses come together at Strathmore to experience the Beatles' Abbey Road.

Liverpool's world heritage status threatened by dockside development

The £5.5bn Liverpool Waters scheme has reportedly been criticised by Unesco team.Unless radical changes are made to a plan to build a series of skyscrapers along Liverpool's famous waterfront, the city could lose its world heritage status, according to a delegation of inspectors from Unesco. It is a fate that Liverpool is keen to avoid as the world heritage status places the city that spawned the Beatles alongside the Pyramids and the Great Wall of China. It is crucial to marketing the city to visitors.

The Beatles at their Best
A Documentary project in New York, NY by Shaun Phillips
November 2011
About this project

My name is Shaun Phillips and my film is “The Beatles at their Best. It’s the true story of early years of the Beatles. The time before Ringo Starr joined the group. The time when Stu Sutcliffe played bass and Pete Best was the drummer. They played the dance halls of Liverpool England & Hamburg Germany and, according to their leader John Lennon, this is when the Beatles were at their best.Comprised almost exclusively from photos, video clips and interviews found on the internet, many only recently available, this documentary will be an entertaining and informative re-examination of the facts behind the making of the most popular musical group in history. It will be the true story you've never heard, about the band you thought you knew everything about. Many people learned more about Sutcliffe from the 1994 feature film “Backbeat”, but Best’s story has never really been properly told. Few appreciate the significant contribution he, the Best family and the Casbah made in helping the Beatles go from an unwanted and out of work drummer less trio into the most popular group the world has ever seen.

Festival can sing out for Liverpool

WHAT John Lennon began, the Liverpool Sound City music festival now intends to continue, in the best interests of our entire city region. The ex-Beatle’s decision to set up home in New York arguably helped to establish a vibrant and meaningful relationship between the Big Apple and Liverpool which has been maintained to this day. When the city was devastated by the attack on the Twin Towers in 2001, Liverpool officials ensured that New York was left in no doubt about how deeply Merseysiders were sharing in their pain. Now the Sound City festival is to hold a sister event in New York, which will provide a magnificent shop window for all that Liverpool has to offer, while, hopefully, Stateside entrepreneurs may well have their eyes opened as to the business opportunities so readily available on Merseyside for transatlantic visitors waving fistfuls of dollars. In these trying times, Liverpool must be grateful for every chance of seizing a business advantage. The US, of course, has its own well-documented financial problems, but there are still many enterprises over there bound to be attracted by a city echoing to the sound of The Beatles and many other class musical acts besides.

As is tradition on the Saturday following Thanksgiving, the Franke Center will host an acoustic concert featuring the music of The Beatles including the album Revolver in its entirety as well as the complete performance of an album released only in the U.K. called A Collection of Beatle Oldie but Goldies.
This year the date of the show is Nov. 26. Tickets for the 8 p.m. show are $15 for adults and $7.50 for students.
Join this celebration of the music of John, Paul, George and Ringo with acoustic renditions of songs from 1966, a year that has sadly been called: The Beginning of theEnd of The Beatles.
Jim Oliver and friends, armed only with acoustic guitars, will recreate the aura and sound of the Fab Four through an ominous phase of The Beatles’ phenomenal history. The show takes you on a tour of number one hits, album cuts and B-sides starting with "Yesterday” released on March 4, 1966 and ending with "*I Want To Hold Your Hand ", a tune that originally appeared in 1964 and was included on The Beatles' first greatest hits package released in the UK on Dec. 10, 1966.

Google's got it covered: Rock 'n' roll history is just a click or two away as Street View captures the locations of iconic album photos

Google Street View has proven itself to be a handy tool - it can be used for everything from scouting out a travel destination to simply seeing if a restaurant or bar is worth visiting. Now there's a new use for the feature: music lovers can track down their favourite album cover locations.Sean Yeaton from vice.com painstakingly looked up the locations of ten iconic album covers, matching the orientation of each with the best images Street View could provide. He admitted it was a bit geeky but said it could also be very rewarding. Some were easy to find - after all, there are heavy clues about where to look in the titles of the Beatles album Abbey Road, or Eric Clapton's 461 Ocean Boulevard.

MsLinds, I saw some of the videos of Julian and I loved his performance of "Saltwater" the most. What did you think?

Also, I REALLY want a new Sean or The GOASTT album!!! Right now!!!

Are you doing anything different/special on December 8th this year? I'm probably just going to celebrate John by breaking out all his flawless/untouchable music and watching LennonNYC and Nowhere Boy. Keeping it simple this year!

I think Nico it was a great performance by Julian.I do wish he would perform and sing some of his other songs sometimes more often from this other older albums. He needs to get out and tour and make more public appearances to promote his new album.I know its been posted online. That Sean and Charlotte are working on a new music CD.That will be titled, " Victorian Cyborg " ,unless that gets changed later on by them.So hopefully that will be released in the near future by The Goastt. As for the anniversary of John's assassination this coming December 8th.I will listen to some of John's music and also light a candle for him at home. As I allways do every year on that date. Also send out my Pagan prayers and love and positive energy out to him and his wife Yoko and for Sean and Julian and for all everyone that loved him.Everyone have a safe, positive and great week and take care.

John Lennon To-Do List Up For Auction

Another day, another trivial Beatles artifact up for auction. We've had the tooth, the drummer letter and the cardboard sign. Now we add arguably the most revealing of items -- the to-do list, belonging to one John Lennon. The list is up for auction on Gotta Have Rock and Roll, a site devoted to the sale of rock and roll memorabilia that previously sold Lennon's Talisman necklace for $528,000. The to-do list comes with a comparatively moderate price tag -- the minimum bid stands at $3,000, and it's estimated to go for $4,000 to $5,000 when the auction opens Wednesday. So what did Lennon deem list-worthy? Number one on the list was letting the H.B.O. guy in between 3-5 -- this one has a star next to it so it must be important. Number two was getting his Thor Heyerdahl book back from Sam Green -- with an X next to it so it's safe to say Lennon and the book were reunited. It's also safe to say that Lennon was a diligent list-maker, considering he changed pens to write the X in a satisfying, bright red. He lists more books, presumably to buy, putting back Sean's mattress, marmalade, making sure both cars have full tanks of gas, and other wonderfully mundane items.

A previously unseen photograph of the first US performance of The Beatles at the Washington Coliseum in 1964.A Christie’s auction house employee holds a previously unseen photograph of the first US performance of The Beatles at the Washington Coliseum in 1964 during the press view of the forthcoming sale of ‘The Beatles Illuminated: The Discovered Works of Mike Mitchell’ in central London, on June 10, 2011. The photograph is expected to fetch between GBP 1,200-1,800 (dollars 2,000-3,000 or euros 1,370-2,050 ) when it is auctioned in New York on July 20, 2011. AFP PHOTO / CARL COURT (Photo credit should read CARL COURT/AFP/Getty Images)As arguably the most influential and popular band to grace our ears over the past half century, The Beatles are sure to have had some interesting items up for auction. From rare finds like a lyrics sheet for their song “Hey Jude” (in Paul McCartney‘s handwriting!), to wacky tie hangers (wacky, but practical for today’s businessman), many items have been up for bid for a pretty penny or two… or three… or thousand(s).CLICK through the gallery to see many of the amazing/crazy items that have been put up for auction!

'Quiet Beatle' left a legacy: Letter

On Nov. 29, 2001, the world bid a sad farewell to a second member of the legendary "Fab Four," George Harrison, who succumbed to cancer. Although George Harrison has been labeled "the Quiet Beatle," his artistic efforts spoke in extremely loud volumes that simply cannot be ignored.George Harrison is best remembered for his work with the Beatles, recording pop standards such as "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun." He was one of the first to introduce Indian influences and instruments to Western music. Harrison also had a deep social awareness side to his music and projects. His song "Taxman" bitterly complained about abusive tax systems and the toll they take on democratic governments. George's Concert for Bangladesh in 1971 raised $243,418.50 for the United Nations Children's Fund to provide relief for the youngsters of refugees caught in the turmoil of political disorder and devastating floods. Of course, George Harrison worked on other worthwhile projects that enhanced social consciousness.

Liverpool Beatles guitar store Rushworth's researched

In his small 1950s council house the 14-year-old Liverpool schoolboy had persevered with learning the trumpet. He tirelessly practised his C scale on the instrument, a birthday gift from his father, but he wanted to sing and play at the same time and decided that what he really needed was a guitar.Fortunately for Paul McCartney, his father had bought the trumpet from Rushworth's, a Liverpool store that was then Europe's largest music house, and somewhere that would allow him to exchange the instrument for a £25 German guitar."The story goes that he couldn't play it because he was left handed so he had to turn the strings round the other way", Jonathan Rushworth, great-great grandson of Rushworth's founder recalls.

Default Love and MISS YOU George (2/25/43- 11/29/01)

George's 10th anniversary is upon us. I am all tears and sadness. I will be watching the new doc and playing nothing but George's music from his outstanding box collection. I love him with all my musical heart. He was my original favorite Beatle, and he left us all a tremendously beautiful musical legacy. Right now I will leave this post with a George spam in his honor...

Thank you George. For everything you gave this world, not least of which your AMAZING musicianship and songwriting, your deadpan humor and wisdom, and your deep, endless, and unwavering quest for the spiritual beauty in everything. I adored, still do, and miss you very much. Always.
