Yeah, but she seems to have put alot of faith into Dave Stewart.. Then of course alot happened she was not planning on. I tend to give her some benefit of the doubt for that,,, Can you imagine if the Cd AND Doc had been available as a package deal??
I think she would have done better NOT going with the BIG record label too.. Too bad she did not do it on Modern Records... or better yet Welch Witch Recorsd?? "_)

She seems to be in a better place now so maybe more on the money decisions.. >>

d,
Modern Records is now pretty much defunct. Oddly one of Michael Jackson's brothers bought the label & it's assets during the mid 90's around the time Stevie bought out the rest of her Modern contract, along with the agreeing to release a Box Set (Enchanted).
Stevie soon after signed on to a 4 or 5 record contract with Reprise/WBR, making IYD her 4th contractual recording (after TISL, Crystal Visions and Live In Chicago: The Soundstage Sessions.)

In fact, Stevie may still owe them another release. Perhaps someone here remembers exactly how many records she signed a contract for in 06'. Meanwhile it doesn't sound like Reprise/WBR is releasing or distributing the IYD documentary, which most likely will be an independent release with Mass Weapons of Entertainment along with a yet to be named distribution deal. If she owes Reprise/WBR another release, I guess there is always the chance that the label could release her from any further obligations, or Stevie once again could buy out the rest of her contract. But honestly, I don't believe Stevie would ever go the the full independent route...but then again stranger things have happened!

Meanwhile, Fleetwood Mac is a free agent, having only signed a 1 record deal with Warners for SYW. Not sure if that counts towards Stevie's tally or not. But it definitely gives them less incentive to record another record and shop it around again.

Mac signed a 2 record deal, which became SYW and Live in Boston.

Any chance that also equates to Stevie fulfilling her obligations as well?
I would much like to see her with a label that would actually PUSH her music??
What's happened with IYD's is pretty lame!!

I've said before, but I think it bears repeating -- the wait we're experiencing really isn't out of the ordinary. Lindsey was already working on another album ('Gift of Screws') before they released the documentary for the album prior ('Under The Skin'). Fleetwood Mac's 'Destiny Rules' doc was released 17 months after 'Say You Will.'

And those are just Mac-related examples.

Although I get what you're saying about Stevie needing to be more involved in her own products, the fact that she's hands-off should have helped get this out quicker. If they filmed right up to the release date, or to the Wiltern show, she could have turned in, and gone on her way promoting the CD and then going on tour. Professionals could have taken over the editing, packaging, etc. and had that sucker out before the end of last summer. Stevie was still on tour, interest in IYD was at its peak, and sales would have been good. I'm still not sure why that didn't happen.

On the other hand, if Stevie wanted to be involved in the day-to-day details of post-production, that would make the delay more understandable. With her U.S. tour, Australian tour, and the death of her mother, it would only have been in the last couple months that she would have time to work on it.

Lightbulb Contracts...Again

I know Stevie wasn't happy with her record deals with Warner becasue Trouble In Shangrila...pre 9/11...it could have been pushed...It wasn't one of my favorites. I didn't like mixing, in particular...most vocal tracks synthed out Sharon and Lori...into an electronic white sound...she and the girls have that whole harmony thing sicne Bella Donna, just check the few clips of them in the studio during the recording of Blue Lamp and stuff...I didn't like that part so much and that is my first favorite part. The 2nd problem I had was with overproduction. Away went her really beautiful songs...hey, I dig the Planets Of The Universe, and the demo, I liked the words but, It didn't grab me like others. This whole album lacked catchy litte riffs, melodies...even her famous ..to song structure was gone...For example, Surprisingly, I really like, You May Be The One, from In Your Dreams. I have grown to love almost every song sans Annabell Lee. I love Poe, I just didn't dig, again, a catchy vibe. You May Be The One, grew on me...but, I used to dream that...you were an angel...you were an angel...etc....That is what I love.

Sorry, got off track. She is independant from WB deal with Fleetwood Mac unless there were contractual clauses. WB gave the biggest buget to record...but, come promo and interviews, and all the magic stuff...just like with with Stevie's, Trouble In...ok, we spent for the recording...go sell it. It didn't work...

I really wish she would give WB whatever she owes...if anything.

Interscope run by Iovine, and her whole new beginning with Jimmy, I think he could sell her to Techo fans...even if it was a Country Album. He still references to her regarding almost everything...they totally made each other in the biz. I'm not talking about him taking over producing or what have you...I think he would be a benefit for, at least, some creative suggesting...and with his belief and excitement in her...even making that chick sing Rhiannon, Tusk Concert Stevie Style...wind and all...phraseology...etc...He would sell Stevie...not a bunch of old lazy CEO rts that know zero talent or music if Janis Joplin, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash and Elivs were spoonfeeding them like Kindergarteners. Stevie's fame, fans and hype from Dave had IYD debuting at numer 6 or whatever...but, alas...the boys in the office ar on an extended business trip to a tropical paradise...from where they were born.

on a cocunut tree...

It will surface.
Shame on the Corporate world...it goes far beyond us being overworked, underpaid and hungry and homelesss...at least we could have some good music like hard times always had...

Sorry, I know some of you guys know I freelance sometimes, mostly political...and I hate it. That part came about by mistake...and here I don't often spell check...or structure.
Just my insanity at its best...

Jim

STEVIE NICKS PREPPING DOCUMENTARY FROM LATEST SESSIONS

7/2/2012

Stevie Nicks is prepping a rock documentary chronicling the making of her recent In Your Dreams solo album, which was produced by the Eurythmics' Dave Stewart. We caught up with Nicks who shed some light on what a massive undertaking it's been to get the film ready for release.

She told us that the story is literally revealed in the album's sessions: "We filmed it. And we filmed it from February to December. And it took them all year to actually edit it from 100 hours to three hours and in the last four months we've edited it down to an hour-and-a-half. Um, it's really a magical little film, because it really shows you -- it's like and old fashioned rock n' roll film about how, y'know, you go. . . My idea and Dave's idea was Led Zeppelin recording at the Grange. So we said. 'We have. . . I have a big old house, so let's record the record there' -- and that's what we did."

In Your Dreams entered the Billboard 200 chart at Number Six and marked Nicks' first Top Ten album in a decade. There's been no release date announced for the new documentary.

I love that she is actually talking about it now, but I still cannot believe there is no release date. I mean, they should have some idea of when it will come out. They could at least pick a season! Hopefully October so it can come with a bunch of spooky witchy Stevie extras.

Yep! It's called 'Not Too Late,' and like Michele said, it's included on the 'Bass Performance Hall' release.

I completely agree with what I've out in bold here, so much so that I think we're at crossed purposes. When I said more involved this is exactly what I meant. Have the motivation to get the thing out there, be involved in such a way as to deliver a product to your fans in as timeous a way as possible, especially since it would have been perfect cross-promotion for the album.

I think she did not really need the first Rod outing last year.It was great to pay some bills. But it got in the way of her to get ready to get IYD CD released.Nevermind she got sick from that tour that ruined her release and a couple opening shows and the Today show appearance.

I would hope someone would have the marketing sense to offer not just the hour and a half version but a "deluxe" version of the whole 3 hours. Metallica released that rather loooong documentary a number of years ago about all their issues recording an entire album and then going out on the road (while various members went sober and tried to stay sober).... I'm not even a Metallica fan and I was riveted watching the whole thing.

Why they have not put people to work editing all the video etc from the Bella Donna recording sessions, which could be somehow packaged with the HBO concert video and all that is beyond me. Where is all the Rosebud footage?!? This band keeps recycling the same old crap. We at least got a [I]little[I] bit of previously unseen material in her Crystal Visions dvd package....but there's gotta be more.
