Hmm... well, Hayley left '06'ish, which is when I started back up again after a long hiatus. As her protege, I'd like to think that I've carried the torch of informed industry info filled with snark and occasionally derision

I agree with the popularity contest comments. I think its good to compliment one another on a streak of interesting and insightful posts-- so just PM somebody if you're liking what they've been saying lately.

Yes, that was when I took my couple year hiatus from the Ledge. Everyone just went completely nuts... it was an online version of Mean Girls. The only reason I started posting again was because those self-congratulating "cool crowd" people left. It's true there is far, far less knowledge on the Ledge these days... but I'll take nicer, less informed folks any day!

I find it silly really when impersonators get so upset at one another over who's better. You're paying homage in your little corner of the world your way, and I'm paying homage in mine. That's just how I look at all that stuff.
Tribute band drama?? WTF?!

Funniest thing I've read on here in ages. I truly LOL-ed. Thanks Louie.

Took the words out of my mouth!

A popularity contest wouldn't be good, but encouraging a culture of being pleasant with one another and acknowledging when someone makes us laugh or brightens up our day with their posts certainly would be.
There was a "Say something nice about another Ledgie" thread posted here in that spirit a few months ago that I really liked

I remember a lot of tribute band drama propagated by a bunch of cackling old pea-hens on the Yahoo group for tribute bands that Michelle Tyler formed. Barbara & Ocie got into a big fight, & Michelle Tyler doesn't like fights, so she actually just shut down the entire Yahoo group (instead of kicking off the two offenders!).

To this day (or so I hear), Barbara & Ocie spit at each other when they pass in the street.

I truly have no problem with spirited discussion... I thrive on it actually. But a couple of years back, it ceased being about the music on this board... and became one big pissing contest on who was "cool" and who fell into which clique. Stupid crap like that. And then it just got nastier and snippier. Now I'll vehemently debate with another person until the cows come home... but I will NOT be a part of the junior high school childishness that was so prevalent her a couple of years back. I come on here to debate the band I'm passionate about, and to try and expand mine and others minds. I guess some of those people back then didn't have lives outside of online message boards, but I sure do. And if I don't have patience for immature cliques, name calling, and gossiping in my REAL life I'm sure as hell not interested in participating in it on an online message board!

Come on Louie, you have to admit your posts going on about this are kinda gossipy and name-calling too. Personally, for me, I thought one of the worst eras of the board was the Arizona Ranger incident but we all have different perspectives I guess. I also think the board needs its LukeAs (smart and cool but can be rude as anything) as much as its Betsys (one of the sweetest posters ever). It keeps things interesting. The Ledge has always been known for being edgier and meaner than the other boards. Hell, I read the board but didn't join for over a year because I was scared of the people here and that was almost 10 years ago! Same old, same old really. Or all the same, as Stevie would say.

Barbara as in TimelessBarbara? I don't know Ocie though. I hope this is true but I can never tell for sure with you David!

I'm only impatient and testy with those who lack common sense or who are otherwise obliviously obnoxious. I may seem opinionated/confident, but I can assure you that I always feel terrible if its apparent I was unduly harsh. I've befriended way too many people over the past 10+ years here for anyone to conclude I'm an unmitigated jerk.

Speaking in general terms, I have no patience for those who argue nonsense (things that don't fall into matters of opinion), and any forum worth its salt should condemn such comments as such. Personality conflicts tend to resolve themselves, provided they are between people with adult-level intelligence.

Luke, I promise I didn't really mean it as a dig. I like it that you don't suffer fools gladly. As I said, I like that there are different personalities on the board although too many airheads probably gets me down more than too much snarkiness.

Betsy is a truly lovely lady.
And I want to know more about the tribute singer wars, sounds hilarious!
