Young people who care about social issues and the way their country is headed are the ones who should be cherished, people who respond to a voice of fascism with vocal outrage should be appreciated. Laughing at their efforts to create a more tolerant society is a f*cking disgrace.

Have you ever seen a sitting of Parliament in Britain or Australia? It's about the freedom to vocalise your response. When the opposition is fed fascist crap you can bet they shout out about it, as they should, or would you prefer if they sat in silence? These students would have gone and listened, they didn't walk in screaming and throwing things but if you're fed and don't show outrage to principles from the likes of Himmler, there's something wrong with you. It's so easy to feel superior and laugh from a stupid message board but do remember that you're the one who looks pathetic.

Ah, the ol' "It sure is easy to act superior to others on a stupid Internet message board, but really, you're the one who's inferior." I always wonder if the people who post such things recognize the immediate irony.

(For the record: While I agree with you, Lux, that Ms. Coulter should not have been offered even the tiniest sliver of respect by the UConn student body, I think David is right that the existence of meaningless PC campus groups like "Students Against Hate" is just a wee bit precious and silly. Most colleges boast lots of politically, socially and philanthropically active campus groups that have actual agendas and goals, but crap like "Students Against Hate" just gives overly-PC 20-somethings the chance to pat each other on the backs for being such wonderful and tolerant human beings.)

Yep, that seems to be your style.

the point is, no matter how "sound" your sleep, you will always awaken to the dreary reality that your dreams arent quite what you thought they were....

You poor, tireless crusader, you. How do you do it?

Seriously, though, do you recognize the immediate irony when you post things like this?

I think she was mostly going for David, actually.

Are you not catching the irony either?

Not really, though he was the one to bring up the term hermeneutics. "Keys of Fleetwood Mac songs," though? As much as I wish I studied music enough and had that kind of ear, I couldn't tell you the key of a single Mac song. David loves that ****, though. The "defending the originality of our musical tastes" thing I suppose could apply to either one of us, though that's certainly never my MO. And David's also always the one who seems to get the rap that he's trying to "intimidate" people (which sounds like a load of crap to me, who on earth is intimidated by David? He's an eloquent music nerd with a penchant for aesthetic theory, not a bouncer).

Aww, it's never as fun when you have to explain it away, but: "I will feel important and smile to myself as I post and realise I made a good point, then I will sleep well knowing my accomplishment?" Granted, Lux doesn't smile to herself as much as she releases an overly dramatic, world-weary sigh, but still. And take a gander at the condescension and assumed superiority in her first post where she excoriates David for daring to act superior. That's some delicious pot-keetle-blackness goin' on up in herre.
