Ever heard Warren Zevon's song "Play It All Night Long"? You might like it.
Take a gander at these lyrics:

Grandpa pissed his pants again
He don't give a damn
Brother Billy has both guns drawn
He ain't been right since Vietnam

Sweet home Alabama
Play that dead band's song
Turn those speakers up full blast
Play it all night long

Daddy's doing Sister Sally
Grandma's dying of cancer now
The cattle all have brucellosis
We'll get through somehow

Sweet home Alabama
Play that dead band's song
Turn those speakers up full blast
Play it all night long

I'm going down to the Dew Drop Inn
See if I can drink enough
There ain't much to country living
Sweat, piss, jizz and blood

Sweet home Alabama
Play that dead band's song
Turn those speakers up full blast
Play it all night long

Heh. Why not? I've never felt comfortable in the south. I get scared when I have to leave Austin. In Canton, TX (outside Dallas) there is a Burger King with the 10 Commandments posted next to the menu...on the outside wall of the service station next to it is a sign that says "Welcome to the cleanest gas station on I-35...where Jesus Christ is Lord!" I discovered this on my most recent trip to visit my family in Shreveport (another truly horrifying town...that I survived adolescence without at least attempting suicide is nothing short of miraculous to me ).

Interestingly, did you know that even Lincoln was the first to point out that the war was not over slavery and he did so because he knew that almost all white Notherners would not fight to free black people, who they considered way beneath them and not really full human beings http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Civil_War

It's all fast, and rocking...*sigh* Catchy. Danceable. Singable. Guitarable. Bassable.
Umm, yeah, you forgot cheesy and obnoxious.

I am, but not in the "Singing songs about the Southland, I miss Alabamy once again" kind of way. It just smacks of cheese, I cannot help it. I don't understand how folks down South can get away with that sludge, anyone else would be laughed out of the room.

Nope, sorry, up here we don't trot on down to the general store for some molasses chews and then head on over to Wal Mart in our pick-up trucks accented with gun racks for some wife beaters to wear in hot weather.

Why haven't you moved over here- ish?????
Well, I moved to Austin, which is a tiny spot of blue in an endless sea of red.

I couldn't afford to live in California.

It explains A LOT

We had a camp in Toledo Bend in the Sabine Reservoir, and that was close enough to Shrevepit for me

Oh, honey, the skinheads invaded last year. It was some scary ****. They flocked from the rest of the country to open up an office in Boston to serve as headquarters. And right after they moved in, a mosque in Springfield, MA was burned to the ground by arsonists. Freaky ****.

My great uncle had a camp there. A two story house painted bright yellow with shag carpet. *shudder*

I actually saw some on the Cape as well. Many of the gas stations sell them because they are hot tickets. As for Mass., I LOVE Boston and the Cape. In fact, my friend Gina got married this weekend in Nantucket and I had to miss it
