Dreams lyrics quoted in new Mariah song

In the song One & Only from Mariah Carey's new album Emancipation of Mimi, the following lyrics from Dreams appear right near the start of the song:

"Say, players only love you when they're playing (games)."

(Mariah adds 'games' to the end.)

Thanks to my friend Tom, who over the years I have indoctrinated well with all things FM, so he recognized this line straight away when he first heard the song.

I will say her new record is supposed to be great. I think when she is not squealing like she is getting *U*K*D - she has a great voice as witnessed in the song Hero.

I used to like her back in the day....before she went ghetto or whatever. She has an AMAZING voice, but doesn't wanna use it in the way I believe she should. Dammit, Mariah, listen to me, I am right!! Sesly though, I miss the old Mariah. I know she says that wasn't really her though.

I agree in part. I too love Mariah and was addicted "back in the day" and was really shocked when she changed the format of her music. But I had to walk away for a while and come back to her music and appreciate it in a different way. Yeah, she doesn't do ballads the way she used to or use her voice the way she used to, but she does an amazing job of layering vocals and really takes time to make a REAL remix and produces some nice tracks. Emancipation is an awesome album and We Belong Together is worth the price of the album, IMO.

Also, I watched Mariah about 1 1/2 yrs ago do some of her older songs and honestly, she couldn't do it. Her voice was extremely raspy. So, I guess she works what she's got. She's more of a studio singer anyway. But I still love her.

Her new record IS great. I can't f*cking stand the woman or her previous music, but The Emancipation of Mimi kicks ass. Laugh if you must, but it's the truth.
