Here's another thing I'll place into Lux's box of Stevie/Lindsey and Stevie/Mick contradictions. Why is it we cannot believe Steve is still attached to Lindsey after he pulled her ass and career out of the ashes in 97, but it makes perfect sense that Lindsey would be in an apopleptic rage back in 77 if Mick and Stevie committed to a serious and meaningful relationship after she broke up with LB and he moved on to another woman? That only makes sense to the people who think Stevie and Mick had such true and star-crossed love they sacrificed it for the feelings of another person, rather than they dumped a sleazy affair in favor of a high flying rock career that could have been jepordized if LB decided to leave the band to Mr. and Mrs. Fleetwood Mac and go out and do his own thing. The real situation probably lies somewhere in the middle. LB was likely not happy about Stevie and Mick, but how did ending their affair and telling the world in Rolling Stone make LB any less upset or less likely to quit the band than if the affair continued? Mick knew Lindsey was fearful of his designs on Stevie from the minute they joined the band. That didn't stop the affair from happening. How true or great a love was it that they ended it just to keep the Mac train rolling down the track?

I think the difference is actually having to see the people every day and work with them while they are having the affair, when that girl was just your girlfriend only seconds before. That seems much, much more likely to cause strife than having to deal with an "outside the band" affair. God, if I had to watch someone I just went out with and still love shmoodling someone else every day, I would go mad. Mad, I tell you. I would hate it. I'd probably want to punch them and leave the band. And then, you're on the road with them, and you just know they're in each others rooms all night. Yaaargh!

Good that he was so magnanimous as to put his blistering hot solo career on ice, to re-join FM just to help poor downtrodden Stevie.

To the absolute best of my knowledge, the information about Mick and Stevie's relationship didn't become public until 1990, when Mick's book was published and portions of it were printed in Rolling Stone.
About 12 years after the relationship, and three years after Lindsey had already left the band. It certainly wasn't news to Lindsey by that point, nor do I think it would have still been hurtful to him in any way, shape or form.

Relationships end for a variety of reasons. Sometimes for no more reason than the people just couldn't share the same home together, without clashing.
Does that therefore negate whatever it is they had initially?

No, that relationship was blasted across the rock press back in the 70's. It was not first revealed in the 1990's. People who keep trying to rewrite history based on Mick and Stevie quotes from the 90's are never going to see things as they were. Lindsey surely was upset about hearing of the affair. He did want to quit the band before and after he found out. So if Mick and Stevie were so much in love, why not let him leave? Stevie was the backbone of the band, afterall. Lindsey had another woman yet he still couldn't get over Stevie. She certainly was over him.

That is a lot like what happened to everybody in that band. They were shmoodling with other people and in each other's rooms, not just Mick and Stevie but John and Chris had to handle seeing other people, though not in the band but people who worked for the band. Lindsey had Carol around a lot, and of course Stevie was so over it she didn't care. These people were and are all nuts and that's why they still are so disfunctional today.

I still think it's different that they were in the band. They had to make decisions together and rehearse and stuff. But, okay, I see your point. Just think it's different.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong... but I don't recall reading any article from the 70s, that discussed or even mentioned an affair between Mick and Stevie.

Don't recall reading any articles in the 80s, that discussed it in hindsight either.

Never heard a word of it until 1990.

Their relationship was gossiped about in the seventies. I remember at the very first Stevie concert I went to..Wild Heart..my Mom, who was a huge Stevie/Lindsey/Mac fan told me about Mick and Stevie's relationship. She was an SnL lover...so she was rather put off by the whole idea of their involvement but that is neither here not there. Apparently people knew about it and it was talked about long before Mick's book and Rolling Stone because my mother passed away in 1989...BEFORE having a chance to read Mick's tell all.

Boy - they were just a linin' up to see that Lindsey Buckingham back then then, esp. based on those out of the ball park OOTC stadium tour revenues and HUGE album sales - - or it could have been the fact that he, not she, was asked to do a song for a popular movie and he, not she, included her on the recording out of kindness - yep - he sure was a mega star then and she a no name, worthless, forgotten has been - but, I know you post that drivel to incite - so

As for the other stuff, I agree it is somewhere in the middle.

Me either - though it may have been known through gossip.

Please cite a source. If I am wrong I am wrong - but I do not remember reading about it AND its clandestine nature was the tell all that Mick planned to use to sell his book

Oy vey, don't make me ralph. They were both has-beens at that time. She needed him and he needed her. Simple as that.

True - but GF was implying, as she always does, that LB was a larger star and through that stardom, he rescued La Nicks whose career was going nowhere fast as opposed to his. If anything, it is the opposite because La Nicks has always been a larger star than LB and was then even though both of their careers were declined. I mean I get that SA did not sell well, but it sold far more than OOTC (I think) and at least she still had the star power then to go on Leno and Letterman (to a huge ovation no less) and get booked in the sheds across the country, which he could not do with OOTC - that is dispositive of her star power. Also, in that time period when she supposedly was so washed up, she was asked to do a song for what was being poised as a huge blockbuster Hollywood movie. Again, that was dispositive of her remaining starpower even in her apparent decline. So, while I totally agree they both needed each other for The Dance, she was a far larger star even in her decline than he probably ever was in the way that a name is recognizeable to the average person. Also, I do not relish that and I think LB is a great artist and a nice guy, but thems the facts and the LB die hards are loathe to admit it because they hate Stevie so much - probably because of that.

Finally, I get that La Nicks career was in decline in the mid 90's - so there is no need to point that out My point is that even in its decline, she was a far larger star than he was.

Still ralphing

I'm not loathe to admit anything. They were both has-beens. I just get a kick out of someone who was once a huge star and seller of millions of records having a career that degenerated into contributing mediocre songs to movie soundtracks and doing free concerts for local radio stations, and then being built up as still having loads of starpower. I can admit that Lindsey was totally washed-up, but La Nicks was just as much washed-up as he was. No one is arguing against the fact that she was always a bigger star, which, in my opinion, kinda makes her more of a has-been in the public eye (or at least in the smut rags) than he was because she fell the furthest at that particular time. You can point to Letterman and all that other **** from 1994 (which doesn't really matter because her record still bombed, just like his, and her tour bombed, just like his), but no one was talking about 1994, I was discussing the time when The Dance rolled around. You know, the time when they needed each other to make money and possibly further their career.

So, then, while Stevie was a has been, Lindsey was a "never was"? And I disagree that Stevie was "just as washed up". She still had way more fans and name recognition.
