When she says something and makes it sound so definite, you believe what she said, even when you know she's highly prone to error. You know you shouldn't place any reliance on it, but when someone throws out a definite time frame, you kind of swallow it hook, line and sinker.

This is so true. She does this all the time, and yet, her numbers are often completely wrong I really should stop believing her.

There have been so many interviews and articles over the past few weeks, that I can't keep track -- were Stevie or Lindsey ever directly quoted that a song was being released in "two weeks?"

The only direct quote I remember, was something about "between now and the start of the tour." But I can't even remember which of them said it.

Lindsey probably mentioned he had songs coming out on the This is 40 soundtrack in an interview and somehow it was misprinted that "Fleetwood Mac" had songs out in 2 weeks. The timing would have been about right.

good guess as he had those 3 This is 40 soundtrack come out at the beginning of dec, but the talk actually was about 2 FM songs that SN also worked on in his studio.

i'm not sure whether there was a 2-week timeline mentioned, but i think both LB and SN mentioned that first of the 2 songs would come out before the end of 2012 or at the start of 2013 (doesn't seem to be happening lol!), and the second one to coincide with the start of the tour in April.

I think they will still release these two songs (if they do) with Warners. With digital music, they don't have to sign an "album contract" like the old days. They can easily write up a contract just to release these two songs as sort of an online EP. Stevie said in the recent Yahoo interview that the songs will be released between December and the beginning of the tour. The band itself never said they would be released immediately. I'm sure, if they do release them at all, it will be closer to the beginning of the tour for momentum purposes.

I think the big question at this point is one that we have gotten conflicting information. Some articles have suggested that Lindsey is doing lead vocals, while others (specifically the recent Yahoo article) have suggested that Stevie is doing the majority of the vocals. We know they were both written by Lindsey, but it seems he wrote them (or at least one of them) with Stevie in mind as the lead singer.

Fleetwood Mac announce new music, 2013 tour
Stevie Nicks talks with MSN Music about the band's upcoming tour and when their new songs will be available

Special to MSN Music

It was hardly the world’s best-kept secret. Lindsey Buckingham told MSN Music last year that he was looking forward to a Fleetwood Mac tour, and Stevie Nicks basically said the same thing on TV earlier this year.

But now it’s a reality, with the 34-city tour kicking off on April 4 and tickets going on sale as early as Friday, Dec. 14. And that’s not all. A deluxe version of “Rumours” will come out with the tour and will include unreleased outtakes and live songs. Plus, the band – Buckingham, Nicks, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie – has recorded two new songs to be released before the tour – one in just a few weeks.

Thank you for sharing that, Bandon. I appreciate it, but I'm looking for a direct quote from one of the Maccers. Something straight from Stevie's or Lindsey's mouth that a song was supposed to be released in two weeks.

I interpreted the "a few weeks" as two weeks, however, the term "a few" to others may be longer. Who knows? My guess is there should be a new tune out by January 15th. Fingers crossed.

A couple is 2, a few is 3, and 4 would be a month. That's how I'd say it anyway.

I just hope we get these songs AT SOME point in the near future. I'm itching to hear them. And yes, the slight discrepancy about the vocals is intriguing.

I'm excited that they did the new recordings with Mitchell Froom. It makes me optimistic for new Fleetwood Mac music. I'm a HUGE fan of what he did with Richard Thompson on RT's "Rumor and Sigh" and "Mirror Blue". I could easily hear how it could translate with Fleetwood Mac.

It's my understanding that a lot of diehard Richard Thompson fans were not exactly happy with Froom's production, which was certainly more classic pop-sounding [think Beatles and Brian Wilson] than they expected. Thompson comes from a more folk background, so having mulitple layers of overdubs was probably a shock to some of his fans. I loved those records he did with Froom, though.

Froom has created some career-best records with a variety of artists. Check out these:

Los Lobos - Dream in Blue

Los Lobos - Wicked Rain
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQIqeMJYdHU

Los Lobos - Kiko and the Lavender Moon

Missy Higgins - Where I Stood

Crowded House - Into Temptation

Crowded House - Better Be Home Soon [Froom plays the Hammond organ solo]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOenp3MUnh0

Crowded House - It's Only Natural
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVSFz6KFkaM

Crowded House - Instinct [this isn't among my favorite CH tunes, but several friends have told me that the groove reminds them of Fleetwood Mac, probably because of the bassline]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soaaFuIGolc

Paul McCartney - My Brave Face
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rJ2LRxzxbI

Elvis Costello - So Like Candy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBKGQaSFEjE

Bonnie Raitt - Lovers Will
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpIfS5FYvCU

Bonnie Raitt - Round and Round
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehAhyEFmdGs

Phantom Planet - California
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wq-S8CIU7VA

Suzanne Vega - Blood Makes Noise
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6qvIhygLTs

Finn Brothers - Part of Me, Part of You
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc-9ZJ7ksAI

Froom is a fantastic keyboardist and a very talented arranger, too. Perhaps best of all, he's not afraid to challenge the artists with whom he works to bring their best. In other words, he's not a "yes man," and he's great at finding common ground with the artist.

I think Stevie doesn't want to work with FM at all if Lindsey is producing. Speculating here, but I would say she feels it gives him too much power over the album making process, and his input on her material overwhelms her own feelings and opinions.

A third party producer allows her to have equal footing with Lindsey in the studio.

I assume it's a way to lure Stevie into the studio as she was pretty displeased with what became of her songs on Say You Will. Lindsey has also stated he doesn't want to produce any future Mac albums because the amount of time required would take him away from his family too many hours in the day.

Good question.

It's always good to have someone else to bounce ideas off of, particularly, as is Lindsey's case, when the producer is also the artist.

Lindsey worked with Jon Brion on the recent THIS IS 40 tracks, he used Rob Cavallo and John Shanks as producers on SAY YOU WILL, and Richard Dashut was co-prodcuer on many Mac records and on OUT OF THE CRADLE.

So, it's not unusual at all that he's working with Froom on the new tracks, but Lindsey sounds as if he enjoyed working with him:

http://social.entertainment.msn.com/...e-97e3d1cb867d

How did you hook up with Mitchell Froom?

“I had never met Mitchell but spoke with him on the phone. I like the guy. I like some of his reference points that I was aware of. I also knew he was a very skillful string-arranger in case we wanted anything more outside the box like that. And to top it off he lives about five minutes from me. We did this whole thing in a very handcrafted way. I’d go into his house and gave him all my rough demos first, some of which were fleshed out, others just snippets of things hummed into my phone….we sort of agreed on what songs we’d do, worked on arrangements. We had the whole thing worked out before John and Mick showed up. Then it was pretty organic. It was interesting for him – the peculiarity of how we do things… for three weeks we came up with all that’s stuff. It’s all very pop. It hearkens back to the Fleetwood Mac classic feel. And John and Mick were just playing their asses off.”

Okay, so here's something interesting: Lindsey claims to have never met Froom, but Mitch is credited with playing organ on "Turn it On" from CRADLE.

Hmmm...?
