Moved on from books about the Hells Angels and on to Ken's Making of Rumours. I'm about half way through and enjoying it very much... feeling a bit like I'll be sad when it's done because the way it reads is almost like you're there. He seriously does need to write a follow up about the Tusk sessions.

I agree with what others have said about e-book prices. I like that you can get them instantly, but they really should be much cheaper than an actual book. Modern conveniences and the price we pay, eh?

I'm half way through the first one, and it's pretty good! I prefer David Edding's The Belgariad series, because I think he has much better character development, but Game of Thrones is entertaining enough.

I also just finished Patti Smith's Early Works book of poetry, and it's fascinating. It took a while to draw me in, but I found some of my favorite poems in there.

Has anyone read Michael J Fox's 'Lucky Man'? I recently re-read it. I find it a really inspirational read and very well written.

Patti Smith has a beautiful way with words. Have you read just kids?

Bumping one of my favorite threads.

I've recently finished:

The Many Lives of Marilyn Monroe by Sarah Churchwell. I consider myself pretty well-versed on all things Monroe, but this was good read. Instead of a standard biography, Churchwell offers a more scholarly analysis of all writings on Marilyn out there.

The Art of Racing in the Rain. Finally read it, Paula. Enzo is the most endearing narrator ever. Loved it.

Currently reading The Dance of the Dissident Daughter by Sue Monk Kidd, who writes about her spiritual journey. As someone who was reared in a religious home, struggled with my beliefs, and became a full-fledged feminist, I can relate.

I just started reading the Girl/Dragon Tattoo series. Am on book 2. SOOOO late in getting these read. Book 1 I read just because I saw the movie, wanted to see if there were additional details, and as always-the book is better. Book 2 is a major page turner imo.
I read HG, then bought the nice hardbound set, but have yet to read 2 &3, but will get in to that once I finish the Larsson trilogy.

I am SO grateful to be on a board w/ sound members that aren't gushing their way thru 50 Shades. Talk about akward writing style. But shame on me cause I bound right thru all 3, then REALLY hated myself for being having read them. lol. Get off my ass and write a better trilogy I say

Every summer I try and catch up on classics. Last year I read Lord of The Flies, (re-read) Brave New World, so that I could read BNW-Revisited, and lastly Animal Farm which I had never read before. Not exactly cheery Summer reading, but damn, all very good books.

My main likes are Metaphysical, Horror/Sci-Fi, Erotica, anything Atwood (her collection Writing with Intent is a must). Recent enjoyments are David Moody, Kat Richardson, Crowley biographies, and revisiting Rice's Beauty series.

I'm very interested in that Monroe book GypsySorcerer mentioned. I too have read quite a bit of Monroe biographies and they become more and more about the authors opinion vs. an insightful look into the life of an icon. I also expanded my knowledge of Josephine Baker with a few biographies. If any of you are into bio's, Baker and Marlene Dietrich are fascinating subjects.

LOL, It's not HORRIBLE, just idk, I'm reallyon the fence about it. I have a decent collection of vintage erotica, and I'm really happy to see a bit more modern take on things being read by the general masses. It's just her different POV's and she makes the woman powerful then strikes her down (imo) into little better than an infant, then back...then back, then... on and on for 3 novels. No doubt, I read them, in a hurried OCD kind of way...but when all was said and done, I'd have taken it in a very different direction.

Jenna Jameson: How to make love like a porn star.
http://www.amazon.com/Make-Love-Like.../dp/0060539097

My Review:

Hmmmm, a cautionary tale? It seems to me that Jenna is glamorizing porn. I like this book because it gives insight into that mioptic, strange world, but Jenna is trying to make a buck here. Hence, it doesn't always seem truthful to me. What is sad is basically she didn't have any parenting. Her mother died, and her father was always working and basically she ran wild and made really dumb choices. She had no self-esteem and was set adrift to be raped and used. Her life seems completely sexualized. She could strip, lap dance, and do porn with her father's blessing, which I seriously doubt is the norm. Her story is a story of survival, but I think she faired better than most other porn stars. She is the richest porn star in history and very proud of it. Oh well, good for her.(less)
