Golden Heart-Mark Knofler

One of the VERY few long albums I love....an hour and ten minutes of pure pleasure.

I bought that one when it first came out. Problem is that it is so different from his Dire Straits stuff that it took a little while to become accustomed to. Personally I prefer his later solo work although Golden Heart isn't all that bad.

I once played Golden Heart for my wife who said that it was a little bit scary and therefore I've never played it again while she is around.

I still think her best is Flaming Red, but that may be because it was the first album I heard.

Every solo album by Butch Walker:

Letters
Left of Self Centered (just for the title alone, come on!)
Butch Walker and the Let's Go Out Tonites
Sycamore Meadows
I Liked It Better When You Had No Heart

New album coming out this summer - he's been posting snippets on Tumblr for the last two weeks. He's a brilliant lyricist, his voice just melts me. He's a sweetheart to his fans, I just adore everything about him.

Tracey, did I screw up by not going to the free Reigning S0und show tonight at the Mohawk?

I think all of Carlene Carter's (June Carter Cash's daughter) albums are underrated. She's an extraordinary songwriter, and to me the most talented of the Carter/Cash offspring.

I heard Living With Ghosts first. I like Flaming Red, but it's more polished than her others. I like her more raw & singer-songwriterish. Does that make any sense? But I really love all of her albums, least favorite being Impossible Dream. She's amazing.

Umm, free Reigning Sound show? Yeah, you f*cked up! Why did I ever move away from Austin? Oh yeah, my husband and his stupid dream job. I miss Austin...and you!

Here are the albums you need from RS:

Time Bomb High School
Too Much Guitar
Love and Curses
Break Up...Break Down

Enjoy! You will thank me.

All the albums by Bruce Springsteen's wife, Patti Scialfa.
She has such an amazing low, raspy voice that is like heaven to me (I'm a sucker for low female singing voices). She's a great songwriter and guitar player too. Sadly, not many people have heard her solo work though, which is a shame. She's amazing.

Holst The Planets isn't like history books??? Am I thinking the right thing??
Anyway,
The Creatures: Boomerang
Fiona Apple: When The Pawn
Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks: Where's the Money? (Only prolly my most fav album EVAH!) OK, anything and everything Dan Hicks. get on board people.
Sinead O'Connor: Lion & The Cobra. A little dated, but remember hearing that voice for the first time? That's why I like this one best. It's totally eclipsed by IDWWIHG =0(
Siouxsie & The Banshees: Through The Looking Glass. Granted a bunch of covers, but her rendition of Gun, Lost Little Girl, Trust In Me & Strange Fruit show that this band wasn't just a flash in the punk wave. Siouxsie's voice...mmmmmm.
White Rabbits: It's Frightening. A newer group. Not a SOLID album, but a strong debut, and I really hope they don't fall into obscurity. I'd like to see more of them.
Hot Tuna: Burgers. Chill baby, and don't bogart that.....

Awesome choices. I remember when I first discovered The Creatures - I was all like, WHOA there's another whole band that Siouxsie sings for! I was blown away.

Siouxsie's my alternate Stevie. LMAO. I see her live about as much as Stevie. (When I can). Did you ever get in on the fan club released music? I don't have it all, but if I can find a way to rip it, and you don't have it, let me know. Red Wrapping Paper, and Rocket Ship, those are a couple off the top of my head that I can recall.

For me it's 'Ys' by Joanna Newsom. It got amazing reviews, and there are a few people I know who love it, but I don't think it over got the recognition that I think it deserved. Admittedly, it's not for everyone, but if you're into baroque, classically-inspired stuff, you should definately check it out. Also, I think she's one of the best songwriters around today (IMHO).

Here's a link to my favourite song on the album (although it's 17 minutes long and in two parts, so if you don't want to listen, I won't hold it against ya).
