To be fair, I'm walking into Wednesday's show with my glass half full and not half empty because the evening is about my cousin who needs and deserves a very enjoyable night out. And, Stewart brings some great material to the table. Early in his career, he picked some great songs to cover ("The First Cut is the Deepest, " "I Don't Wanna Talk About it," and" "Reason to Believe"). I think Stevie and Rod could have connected on those songs, especially if performed acoustically. It sounds as though they have different processes. He's an entertainer, she's an artist.
That said, for a $166 bucks a ticket, no one should be phoning it in unless the ticket is also the price of a local call. Integrity and fun can go hand and hand.

Oh, I agree about the YouTube thing - I always try and gawk with an open mind - and I've traveled outside of Denver over the years, to many of Stevie's shows. I'm just glad that the show I decided to travel to so far, is the Vegas show, and not this Rod extravaganza.

I'm also thinking the duets will be much better once they hit the west coast.

I watched some of this video before I went to work this morning. I enjoyed watching it; it's a nice & clear video. I think Stevie looks really good. I'm not going to see this show though even though it's coming close to me (Philly). I don't see any chemistry between them & I'm not sure Stevie looks comfortable up there with him. Don't get me wrong, I like Rod's music, but on tour together, I'm not so sure. And I'm probably not going to see her on her solo tour, unless maybe she works her way back East. I honestly like her best when she's with Fleetwood Mac though I do like her solo work.

I kinda wish Stevie hadn't done this month-long series of shows with him. His style of presentation is so different from hers, & they really have no history in common to speak of--nothing that really links them in any important way in terms of their respective artistry.

But Rod Stewart is just being Disco Duck, smirking & mugging at the crowd, ignoring his band -- who disappear into the white background. It's all decor & disco beat.

That's not the Stevie Nicks I respect. Why on earth did she want to do this? She has no personal or spiritual connection to him. The Tom Petty dates she did five years ago made a lot more sense & were a lot more meaningful: she & Tom are rock history together, they're good friends, & they're both rock concert traditionalists at this late stage in both their careers.
I agree David.

Nope, you're not alone.

It makes me sad to see someone like Rod Stewart absolutely sell out, for so long, and just keep cashing in on terrible, awful, lifeless, spiritless schlock. And sorry that Stevie had to be there. But thanks for posting the video. And sorry for being so negative, but for me that was just a huge huge disappointment.

I'm with you. I am a fan of Rod, I've seen him live. His setlist this time around blows - he has much better songs that he could be doing.

Pattyfan - Patty Griffin by any chance?

I didn't go to msg for his set, but I ended up really loving it. Yeah, he's cheesy, but he's a great entertainer with incredible energy. And more importantly, he looks like he's having a ball up there.
I think it's wonderful that Stevie is still devoted to her art and creating wonderful material. But if Rod just wants to give people a great night (and he does--the crowd was loving it), why hold that against him? The man is nearly seventy--I think he's earned the right to have fun and make people dance and not take himself at all seriously.

That said, I think the duets bring out the worst in both of them. He looks even cheesier, she looks brittle.
Yeah, they really have NO chemistry. At all. Nil. Nada. They don't sound all that great together either.

1) Funny cuz it's true.
2) Absolutely.
3) Where are you? I'm near B-Lo.
