Pip is usually the nickname for Philip and Pipa the nickname for Phillipa. I was always called Pipa as a little girl and then that progressed to Pip (along with the stupid nicknames like Pip Squeak, Apple Pip and Pippi Longstocking )
I was only ever called Phillipa when I was in trouble.

I got the name Gretchen because in some Audrey Hepburn movie she had a lovely and elegant friend named Gretchen and my Mom loved the name. Also my parents had other names they were thinking of, like Lauren, Claire and Emma. I love those names! If I was to be a boy, my name would have been Graham (Graeme), Gordon or Hugh. It's funny, people think I'm German, but I'm mostly Welsh, English & Scottish with some Dutch. My sister's name is Ellen and my Mom calls her Ella.
