I usually HATE when one of the main characters dies... but one of mine does. He pretty much has to though, as it's the whole impetus for the other relationship.

I actually like sad endings in novels (but not so much in movies, go figure). If a book makes me cry, I consider that a good thing. I guess I'm not so much into the escapist part of reading. I mean... things don't always work out in real life, so why the hell should they do so in fiction? On the other hand, people who read my work always complain that they "don't like" or "don't get" my endings, so what the hell do I know?

I think that's exactly why I want there to be something uplifting in the end of a story (well, obviously not in the murder-mysteries that I usually love to read! ). Life rarely has happy endings. In fact, it usually sucks the big one.

I can see where you're coming from with that.

You should get cracking on actually fleshing the story out, though. I know if I tried to carry a story around strictly in my head for 7 years, I'd forget most of it by the time I put pen to paper.

The physical description of the protagonist is based on that of a friend of mine - very thin, pale, somewhat effeminate. The "father figure" character is described as having a muscular build, but his hair is silver with soft curls. I never actually assign him an age, but I'd say he's in his late forties/early fifties. The other guy (hotter-than-hell dude) is loosely based on the character played by Olivier Martinez in "Unfaithful" - only younger, gay, and far more ruthless.
oh I wasn't saying you copied its only very vaguely like it but it did come to mind. the characters don't sound similar really.you should check that movie out anyway its one of my favourites.

Oh okay. Maybe I will check that movie out. I'll watch anything for eye candy (River NOT Keanu) - although I still think Joaquin is the more attractive of the Phoenix brothers, though there's no telling what River would look like today if he were alive.

My parents go me The complete idiot's guide on how to get work published, AS WELL as songwriters market.....

I think my parents want to get me an agent after I finish my novel IF I feel that it could be worthy to be sent out to people. Needless to say, I really appreciate my parent's support.

Hope everyone had a GREAT holiday
