Japan 0-0 Croatia
Brazil 2-0 Australia
France 1-1 South Korea

Great effort from Australia - they deserved more. France threw it away! Brazil progress, and all these other countries still have a chance to accompany them.

I agree, they played well and we played really really badly . Moreover De Rossi with that violent fault, behaved like an idiot. Here they're put on trial right now by the media. Unfortunately they're a bunch of spoiled and rich brats, but there are also a lot of talents among them, hopefully the will start to show some more maturity.

Yeah, and the reason we always "want it now" is because we work 80 hour weeks with only two weeks of vacation a year...given this sitch, you'd want it now too

Our lives move too quickly, information and media are thrown at us at every turn in rapid-fire succession, hence, the short attention span. Really, I blame MTV .

Nobody talks about the dutch. We survived the most heavy group of the tournament in just two games...OK, with a little luck against the outstanding team of Ivory Coast....

but.......you ain't seen nothin' yet!

Oh, we suck. I don't think we're totally out yet, but it would take a miracle to proceed to the next round.

If I read it right today, they have to win and have Italy and someone else lose.

After 2 games each, Group E stands like this: (You need to finish in the top 2 to progress)

Wins-Ties-Losses/Goals For-Goals Against/Points
Italy --------- 1-1-0/3-1/4
Czech --------1-0-1/3-2/3
Ghana --------1-0-1/2-2/3
USA ----------0-1-1/1-4/1

So it doesn't look good for the States. They need to beat Ghana in their last game and hope that Italy beat the Czechs. Italy will be trying hard because if they lose to the Czechs and Ghana beat the States, Italy will be out.

Today:
Switzerland 2-0 Togo
Saudi Arabia 0-4 Ukraine
Spain 3-1 Tunisia

Spain are through to the next phase, and it's all over for Togo. The rest must wait till their last games to find out what happens.

Ahh yes, the Dutch..oops sorry haven't seen them this time...but I do remember, being in Nijmegen(?) one world cup time and it was fabulous, all the orange flags and lots of happy happy people, great atmosphere.I must say some Europeans ( not the French) sure know how to celebrate a big event, one great big party it was...

Germany beat Ecuador 3 - 0 so we (England) have to avoid defeat to Sweden tonight to avoid Germany in the next round.

I expect the Germans played extra hard to avoid us!

Come on England!

Let me just tell you that our whole country has been waiting for that event for years and years. Now it's there and millions of people are on the streets. There are not only the people visiting the games. Tickets were hard to get. But in every larger city several "Public viewing" events take place. In Berlin there were 700.000 people today on the so called fan mile. Hundred thousands of guests from other countries are here. Today I saw lots of Swedish and English fans in my train to work heading towards Cologne where in half an hour the next game starts. It is a peaceful atmosphere. Everyone supports his team with passion but there is also a lot of respect for the other nations and teams. In Dortmund the people from Sweden and Trinidad Tobago made a great party before and after the game.
Germany goes crazy for these 4 weeks and it is an unforgettable time.
CU,
Stefan

It's nice to know most people are enjoying themselves and there's been relatively little trouble.

It seems like it's a very well run event.

come on England!

Yikes, is it hard getting around with throngs of people everywhere?

That is really good to hear - let's hope it continues!

Today Germany 3-0 Ecuador, and Poland 2-1 Costa Rica
Also England 2-2 Sweden, and Paraguay 2-0 Trinidad & Tobago

Germany will play Sweden in the 2nd Round, and England will play Ecuador. The other 4 teams are eliminated.

I don't think England were very convincing - a shambles at the back despite being OK going forward. Maybe others will disagree
