well I couldn't agree with you less, but ok

granted, imo, one can't compare Stevie to Heart (as you point out)...just can't, but I was trying to just give an example to compare some usual criticism with another artist

ehhh...to me, it got old...quick (think back, this is during their Lovemongers days as well)

and Ann is not the best singer in the world, imo...close, but not the best

keyword: practically.

Yeah, I guess that could happen.

Oh Lord, they have picked some clunker songs over the years, and have written some that even Ann's voice couldn't save. Still love 'em though.

I used to compare the two a lot, in the 70's, anyway. That was mostly due to the imagery used, the clothes, and the harmonies. But Heart was always way more rock and roll than Stevie and their career took totally different trajectory in the 80's. They did a complete sell out with those cover songs, had a great second act in their careers. After three or four records, they ditched the major label thing and did exactly what they wanted. They sound very satisfied with that too, raising families, going on the road, and recording exactly what they want without interference. Seems like a good balance and they appear very satisfied creatively. It's an interesting comparison to Stevie, really. Considering how they both started out.

You've ruined my naive, childlike sense of wonder.

Like the first time I heard Street Angel....

You ? The Street Angel brigade ?

Honestly, I am hard pressed to think Heart has recorded anything as bad as
Docklands or Jane. But maybe. Okay, not as bad as Docklands or SIAB or LAHGTP. Not nearly as bad as those. Or TMMS.

well, I like it now, but when I got it I had only really heard Timespace and Best of FM (green) so I thought...you know...that all Stevie's songs rocked out and were cool. It was quite a rude awakening, but I soon got over it. IMO, it's just like every other Stevie album - I like about half of it, maybe a bit more. Except TISL, of which I like even less. Maybe Heart hasn't recorded anything that bad, and I love her voice, but she doesn't have Stevie's voice, so...uh...they're tied?

Heart Heart with heart

Heart Live in the early 80's were excellent!!
Saw them a few times...(Once with a "nobody" named John Cougar, for an opening act) ...Needless to say, he made quite the impression...he didn't play any instruments with his band. He just sang and danced to the music...
BUT,
the encore was just John , an accoustic guitar, one light shining down on him and he starts strumming... and he covered
The Stones "Cant always get what you want"
I mean it takes alot of balls to cover The Stones or Mick Jagger ...and accoustic? and alone? and well??...
He gave me goosebumps....but enough about John...

Heart ROCKED and also sang sweet melodies, played an array of instruments and were so amazingly talented. I had collected most of their music, so I knew the songs they were playing. Today, I think ,like Jason said, they have mellowed and are not so into the Rocking out display they used to presant, but if it is a "reunion, or collection or best of" type show.
Get ready to be amazed

Ahh, Nostalgia Fans. The ironic cancer/lifeblood of the dinosaur rock industry.

*** cough *** cough *** cough *** Private Audition *** cough *** cough *** cough ***

Heart's track record is waaaaaaaaay worse on crappy songwriting than Stevie's.

See above. While Ann can sing just about anything, if the material is bad- it's bad. And having a fantastic vocalist sing inferior songs only makes the inferiority more apparant.

Actually, I was smashed when I wrote my post, and don't even know why I wrote that. I thought I had learned the "don't turn the computer on after 4 cosmos" lesson a long time ago.

Jupiters Dump, I mean Jupiters Darling was so so, nothing to get to over excited about.

Private Audition was like a really bad broadway musical on acid. Passionworks wasnt really any better either. To me half of the material on their 70s albums is boring, bland and underproduced.
