Talking Ann Coulter: You're stupider than I am

Ann Coulter to audience: You're stupider than I am

STORRS, Connecticut (AP) -- Conservative columnist Ann Coulter cut short a speech at the University of Connecticut amid boos and jeers, and decided to hold a question-and-answer session instead.

"I love to engage in repartee with people who are stupider than I am," Coulter told the crowd of 2,600 Wednesday.

Before cutting off her speech after about 15 minutes, Coulter called Bill Clinton an "executive buffoon" who won the presidency only because Ross Perot took 19 percent of the vote.

Coulter's appearance prompted protests from several student groups. About 100 people rallied outside the auditorium where she spoke, saying she spread a message of intolerance.

"We encourage diverse opinion at UConn, but this is blatant hate speech," said Eric Knudsen, a 19-year-old sophomore journalism and social welfare major who heads campus group Students Against Hate.

It wasn't the first time Coulter has had trouble at a university speech. In October 2004, two men ran onstage and threw custard pies as she was giving a speech at the University of Arizona.

UConn junior Kareem Mohni, 20, said he was disgusted by his peers' reaction to Coulter.

"It really appalled me that we're not able to come together as a group and listen to a different view in a respectful environment," Mohni said.

I just read this as well. It's always nice when people reconfirm your worst prejudices against them.

But my favorite part was this:

Quote:

I mean, first of all, you've got the inherent hilarity of any Bush lackey questioning the legitimacy of someone else's presidency.

But also: sour grapes, much? Clinton's been out of office for five whole years, during which time conservatives have held an iron grip on nearly every facet and level of government, but they're still obsessed with the guy. They can't stop talking about him for even five minutes. It's incredible how important a figure he is in their mythology. And somehow, he's still the scapegoat for everything Bush does wrong.

"How can you support Bush when he did X?"
"Yeah well, Clinton did Y!"
"That didn't answer my question."
"Clinton was the worst president ever!"
"Okay... but -"
"And Hillary's even worse! Actually, we hope the Democrats nominate her!"
"But that's not what I -"
"And Chelsea's ugly!"

Oh, please! Defending a woman who has no respect for your fellow classmates, either? Why should you respect a vile troll like that? I hope the next time someone throws pies that they're filled with something disfiguring and not just custard.

Do you ever hate someone so much that you can't put it into words? That's how I feel about Ann Coulter. And Bill O'Reilly. And Sean Hannity. The list goes on.

Yes.

I think if I ever saw this woman in person, I would have to pull her hair out by the roots with my bare hands.

They all just secretly wish they were Monica. Clinton's the man!

And remember, Dubya has never done anything wrong! He even pisses gold! The Iraq war? Blame the CIA. Dubya only did what he was told.

Coulter only knows how to do three things: tell the obvious as if she came up with it herself, make insults, and lie. I guess a 4th would be make a totally crazy statement and maybe really believe it.

Of course Clinton won because of the Perot factor, but if Bush One was doing such a hot job, then his folks wouldn't have drifted to Perot.

I see no point in protesting or booing Coulter. She's like Fred Phelps, it's so much better to just ignore them so they get no publicity whatsover. Now the story is going to be about the intolerant left that wants to censor free speech.

You're close. Her fourth skill is to make a completely ridiculous statement but to say it as though it were such an incredibly obvious fact, it's amazing that anybody is stupid enough not to believe it.

Coulter isn't anyone I admire. She's shrill, yappity, smug & mean-spirited. But this campus response is just so typical of the times & so repulsively ironic. These students are equally smug: congratulating themselves on their "tolerance" & their "open-mindedness" & in the next instant calling for the cancellation of a speech.

In other words, Mr. Knudsen, you'll allow other opinions up to & presumably including the point at which YOU deem those opinions tolerable? You take it upon yourself & your cute little do-as-we-say-not-as-we-do student group to decide for OTHER students what they may or may not hear? I must say, that's ever so gracious of you.

File that one under the "Against Which, Who Can Be?" category.

"Students Against Hate" ... LOL!! I'm sure that somewhere on some campus there's a group of childishly yappity students banded together under the name "Students In Favor Of Air."

These students these days ... they have a lot of learning to do. But the university life merely indoctrinates & inculcates prefab sentiments in their feeble little brains. They make even Ann Coulter look sharp.

Ah!! A light in the dark void!! Give this guy a scholarship.

I tend to find these types of student responses silly as well, but nowhere in the article did it say the students were calling for the speech to be cancelled. It just said that they were "protesting," which likely means nothing more than that a bunch of them sat outside the auditorium in the cold and talked amongst themselves about how they don't like Ann Coulter, and maybe yelled at other students walking into the auditorium to boycott it and hang out with them outside in the cold instead.

Yeah, but people have got to be heard. They HAVE to let the world know their opinions regardless of time or place. During my graduation ceremony at Ohio State, one of the bachelor level grads in the Social Work program got up during the keynote speech by J.C. Watts, the out-going black Republican Congressman, because she and her group disagreed with the Republicans. What was funny for me is that all of the other Social Work grads told her to just sit down and shut up, and it's not like they're fans of Mr. Watts, either.

If I dont like it, I dont listen to it. I'm a person that wants to hear BOTH sides of an arguement or issue, but along with Ann Coulter, I can't stand Liberal types that think their dhit dont stink either.

As opposed to conservative types like Man Coulter who think their **** doesn't stink? Pfft. The real question is why a state college is paying Man Coulter to come and give one of her stock speeches about how liberals are guilty of treason, how they hate America, how McCarthy is one of the greatest heroes our country has ever seen, and so on.

Let's save the "opposing viewpoints" and "respect for other views" malarkey for another day; this is a woman whose intrinsic purpose is to show disrespect for those who don't hold her amazingly absurd views by referring to them as traitors & treasonists. That's how she's made her millions and it's on that basis that she was even offered the cash for this speaking gig.

Mister Kareem Mohni must have been snorting some sort of illicit substance in the auditorium john for him to have called anything with Coulter involved a "respectful environment" with a straight face.
