Yeah, I think she composed the main figure (Bb - Gm - Eb - F) & Keith wrote the chords for the bridge (And the rain comes down . . . etc.). When she played the song for Jim Ladd in 1994, I believe she just played the figure she composed. Stevie doesn't write suspended chords or 7ths/9ths. When you see more complex chords, they generally came from someone else.

Which is a pretty good clue in general -- she will generally only play the part of a song that she composed (or in cases like Nightmare or Kind of Woman, where she does a piano version of the parts she writes).

I think Miranda would have been the best choice for the first single, personally. Everybody Finds Out, with all due respect, would turn off some old casual fans and I can't picture classic rock radio stations playing it. But on the other hand, I do think they should have released something jolting right off the bat, so who knows.

I don't think it really matters what songs were released as singles. Fleetwood Mac is not going to have a hit single anymore, in my opinion. If they were, Peacekeeper or SYW would have done it, because they are catchy even if boring as all get out.

I think the band made poor choices about which SYW songs to do live. They should have done Miranda, Steal Your Heart Away and either Thrown Down or RTTG. How disappointing that they didn't shake it up for the final leg.

EFO is amazing, sounds nothing like Fleetwood Mac, and probably would not come off well live.

I love Big Lots and thought they were only in California.

I really like it and wish it had gotten more attention.
I agree. I wish they wouldve done it live

this is awfully interesting...can you elaborate/explain a little bit...not sure I really have had the lightbulb moment yet

I agree only on that first point. I think this song could have really cooked live. I also think it sounds a lot like Tango-era Mac. But then, I never really understand what people mean when they something "doesn't sound like Fleetwood Mac." Am I the only one who thinks all five Rumours-era albums sound pretty different from one another?

No I would tend to agree with you on that.

good lord that's generous - I can't say I would've done the same thing

and I love the demo of this song too. and the interview she gives explaining what the song is about and the interviewer says it's going to be the next single and stevie doesn't respond and the girl goes "right?" and stevie says "I do not know, I am not a soothsayer"

"I wrote Whole Lotta Trouble myself, on the guitar, which I seldom do because of my fingernails. Again, along with Two Kinds of Love, in Australia on the Bob Dylan/Tom Petty tour... I went to Michael's [Campbell] room, he had his 4-track set up, gave me his guitar, tuned it to an open G, you know that [hums opening notes of Whole Lotta Trouble] Well, I can play pretty well; I can play real good rhythm guitar. But with long fingernails and an open tuning, you can only just play that one note, so it's like bass. So I played it, and he recorded it and he sang it, and he took it home, and a year later, I went to Michael's house and he had cut a complete track on it. And he had written a little bridge in the middle of it. And the wildest thing about it was that I had already, in the years that had gone between, I had written probably five or six more Whole Lotta Troubles. So I was all into my new Whole Lotta Troubles, and Michael brought his little yellow ghettoblaster and said, 'Stevie, this is the way we wrote it' and he made me listen to it. And then he put on his track, and it was one of the most amazing moments of my life, was that exactly what I had played on the little yellow ghettoblaster, went exactly along with this incredible track that he had done, and he said 'now you have to relearn it that way.' And of course I hate that, I hate when anybodt tells me that. But I adore Michael, so it's like, 'yes sir, Mr. Campbell, I'll learn it, give me five minutes.' So I learned it, I sang it, and it remained very much, exactly ike it is on the record."

Very interesting thread and comments about EFO. The first time I heard it I thought wow...this is gonna be a big song for them.

But they started off with Peacekeeper, which is good and album rock stations did play it heavily. The Tin Tin Out remix released in the UK was a really good mix of it, although I prefer the album cut.

Then when the single, Say You Will dropped...while catchy, it needs a severe edit. They should have made it short and sweet. Just end the f'ing chorus already. Also I think they should have picked up the tempo a bit especially with the closing chorus. I don't mind the kids singing either...kinda sweet. I hate this song live. Again, that chorus of hell that goes on and on and on.

EFO was robbed of being a single. But I think Reprise just feels that there are enough fans out there that will buy the album and recover costs without much marketing and single promotion. At this point in FM's career, it's not necessary.

Many of you commented on EFO not sounding like FM. For EFO as a single to do well, that might be exactly what they needed. The "who's this" reaction. I have some friends who are not FM fans, but thought EFO was the snap.

If she would just try a little bit, she could have pulled it off. I think the song would have really energized her. And if a kick-ass video had been made and if it had been promoted as a single, I believe her confidence would have been up enough to play it in the right key and rip the vocal.

I couldn't get past the key change. The demo from the 80's was in Dm - then the SYW version was ramped up to Em (so much better)- and then they fukcing drop it down live!! It took the wind outta her sails. If Lindsey's production wasn't such a piece of crap, the key change might not have been so noticeable.

If she did that last section of EFO in the same key live I would eat my shorts. And yours.
Another reason why I'm pissed they didn't do it live....

My least favorite Stevie characteristic ever. It's like nails on a gawd damned chalkboard.

Very, very true- however, if she can record the vocal in this time period, she can replicate it.

Keith Olsen's writing credit was ditched for the Timespace release.

I agree. Miranda should have been the second single, for sure.

Whether or not they would have had a hit single isn't the deal- it's the fact that a kick-ass video would have given them much more visibility and I think it would have boosed the sales of the album.

I should have said "doesn't sound like FM to me." Those five albums all sound different, but I think they mainly sound as if they were a collaboration of the entire band. Tango being somewhat of an exception, and so I'd agree that EFO has a Tango-ness to it.

I think SYW sounds like two solo albums put together with Stevie and Lindsey doing background singing on each other's songs. It doesn't have a feel of the band creating the product as a whole, so it doesn't sound like FM to me. EFO comes across as a Stevie solo song.

As for a live EFO, I agree that it would cook live if they could pull it off, but I don't think Stevie is able or willing to get out of the comfort zone needed to make it work.

Ugh! That's one of my "embarrassing Stevie moments". I went to my 3rd SYW show with a couple of pretty casual fans. They couldn't stop laughing during the song, and then a week later they were still doing the 'lasso dance' just to make fun of me... A$$holes.
