Not too familiar with her. She's not really jazz, is she?

She was really more of a cabaret singer - but she def. delved into jazz and blues.

Also, Brazilian Romance is one of my fav.'s by Vaughn.

I checked out a biography of her at the library this weekend, so I'm kind of on a kick. I haven't heard her Brazilian stuff...I'm still on her '50s jazz recordings. The Mancini Songbook album intrigues me, though.

I'm going to have to sit this one out. I'm not at all familiar with the work of any of these ladies so it wouldn't be fair for me to vote.

In fact, the only one of them that I own anything from is Emmylou Harris... and that's only because she's collaborated with both John Zambetti and Warren Zevon and I own their albums, but not hers.

Sharon, are you telepathic?! I was going to propose these three ladies for a face off! Um, well, I guess it's logical to put them together since they recorded together.. anyway, the choice is easy.

Emmylou Harris Been a fan ever since Red Dirt Girl. But some of her older stuff as well. It's that voice, it's just incredible.

Haven't read the rest of this read, sorry to butt in, but have to say: you'll love it. I've been listening to it since last week, I think I like it best of all his albums so far (the ones I know, don't have them all). I hear Neil Young in it, Gram Parsons.. not saying that it doesn't sound like Ryan Adams, because it does. I need heart smilies. This will do.. <3<3<3<3

Talking Linda

I know I am too old when I pick Linda
Emmy lou would be the politically correct choice and I do like her
but Linda before she went classical and/or spanish was..
Like an early Stevie with a pretty voice.. When she was with the stone pony's or by herself singing lovely bluesy tunes
Willin... or Someone to Lay Down beside me or ....Hasten Down the Wind
many others she was , at that time
Sublime.
I know she won't win but she deserves my vote

Sorry, I think "Michelangelo" is one of the greatest songs ever written. "Bang the Drum Slowly" ain't too shabby, either.

I love Dolly, don't get me wrong, but she's written fewer songs than Emmylou that have just blown my ass away. In "Hour of Gold," when Emmylou sings "To bind the fatal wound and catch your last sweet breath," the effect is devastating. It's one of those moments in a song that's so beyond words that you can't even comprehend how powerful it is; you just feel it and that's enough. That voice forged with those amazing lyrics that she writes has an otherworldly effect on me. To think that it's only been in the past few years that she's been recording her own material is amazing to me. What stopped her from doing it all of these years?

I am loving it. I think "Silver Bullets" is my favorite at this point.

I had a battle of the chicks face off last night. I sang Boulder to Birmingham & Leaving Louisiana, then Jolene, then Long, Long Time and Love is a Rose. I sounded best on Linda's songs, so I voted for her.

Of course, you are entitled to your opinion, Homie. I love both of them, myself. I would submit, however, that perhaps you haven't heard a whole lot of Dolly. To state that Emmylou's dozen or so self written songs she has done blow away anything Dolly has done sounds silly. I don't suspect you have even heard 25% of Dolly's catalogue. Keep in mind she has recorded and released about 350 songs. Methinks you just love Emmy's voice. If you have heard every one of Dolly's recorded songs... number one, I stand corrected, and number two, how in hell did you find the time ? You're only 23.

I only have around ten of Dolly's albums, so of course I haven't heard every one of her songs. And of course I was employing hyperbole in my first post, silly. Dolly's fab, no doubt about it, but she just doesn't do it for me like Emmylou Harris does. And Dolly gets points docked for "Rhinestone," anyway...
