Some people obsess on lyrics, and I'm guessing that those ppl are the one's hating SD. For me, the VIBE of the music is what it's all about. SD rocks!!! That honkytonk piano, with the B3 on the top.

Now about this "Sara" stuff. I like it live, but it's one of those songs that I never get as excited about when it's live, like "Little Lies" and "Hold Me." Uh, except those are for a different reason entirely--the harmonies are never what I want them to be when they're live. I think the vocals are just perfect in the studio version of "Sara", so it's like the live versions can never be good enough for me. I especially don't like the most recent live versions as much as the studio version. But now I've got a "Sara" question. Is the one on the Green Album different from the one on Tusk? (The regular version). Something sounds different to me, granted it has been awhile since I broke out the Green Album. Now that I have so many of the others it seems unnecessary. Anyway, whatever the case, "Sara" is still my favorite FM song. Period.

And diss--the chipmunk simile...that was great.

I admit I have a soft spot for WISYA. There's a certain vulnerability in her voice. Yes, it has a million and one wusuh matta, baby? lines. How can you not love Lindsey singing at the end? Don't answer that some of you.

As for Sugar Daddy, it's one of those if you're having a not so great day that you come home, crank up the volume, and sing along. I'm going to have to listen to it now.

I may be completely off b/c I don't have either the original tusk or the green greatest hits but isn't the version of Sara included on the original Tusk CD the edited version? This was done to allow all of it to fit on one CD? The green album would have the full version. I don't know if that's what you're talking about or not. Also, I would think the track would have sounded a little better because of it being remastered for the greatest hits album if that was the case.

I didn't care for WISYA at first, I didn't even understand the sense of it. But it has certainly grown on me. Stevie's frailty is palpable, but all the "Wassamattababy" mantra stopped to get on my nerves and started to fit well for me in the mood of the song. It's not one of my favourites, but when it comes on my playlist now I enjoy listening to it.

I don't have the original Tusk either--just the re-issue one. So, the first CD has the edited version of "Sara." Well, by edited I mean somewhere between five or six minutes. I don't know if there's a shorter version out there. The Green Album has one that is basically the same length. Last time I listened to the one on the Green Album, I thought it sounded better than the one on disc one of the Tusk re-issue. I don't know why, since the Tusk re-issue is obviously newer than the Green Album.

The edited version is 4 minutes. I've never actually heard it because the longer Sara is for me the better. I guess what you'd call the "normal" version is 6 something and that's on both the Green Album and the re-issue as well as the original vinyl. I have the version from the green album downloaded. It was my first exposure to the band (I was just looking for songs with my name in them) so it has a special magic I guess when I listen to it. Someone else on the board would know better but I'd imagine there's a difference in sound quality between the green Greatest Hits and the re-issue.

Just wanted to add that I, too, love "Sugar Daddy."
It's a great song... fun to listen to, fun to sing along with. It's a "smile-inducer."
In my mind, Christine really can't write a bad song. My "least favorite" of all of her tunes would be "One More Night"... but even that one isn't a song I'd ever say I "hate."

In regards to "When I See You Again," I've always felt... as I have said in the past... that the repetition of the line "what's the matter, baby" is important in conveying the feelings of longing, despondency and ennui (and that tiny, tiny glimmer of hope), that I imagine Stevie must have been feeling at that point in her life. Everytime she says that line, it takes the listener deeper into her psyche. Sometimes it's a question her former lover is asking her, sometimes it's a question she's asking herself... sometimes it's a question that she knows she has no way of ever honestly answering, and sometimes it's a touching example of concern from her past lover that she's still desperately needing to cling to.

I also feel that fragile, hoarse whisper (ah-ha! Stevie's the Hoarse Whisperer!

) that she sings it with, is so in-tune with the emotionality of the song that it would not have had the same effect if she had recorded it a few years prior or a few years later.

Funny that some of the parts I love the most about it, are the most reviled parts of the whole song! Ah well.

Ok, Tynan... for you, I repeated some of why I have the utmost love for "When I See You Again."
