I'm just not nuts for the sound of her voice. It doesn't have enough grit for my taste. I'm fine with her on back-up or harmony.

So if she was speaking out against Moore you wouldn't love her? Is the message it's OK to speak out as long as it's what we want to hear?

Regardless if she was a Rethug, I'd still love her because she can sing her ass off. But judging from the known Rethugs in the entertainment industry, I really never cared for any of them even before I knew their politics. Ahnuld? Nope. Bruce Willis? Nope. Bo Derek? Hell no. Loretta Lynn is really the only exception, but I question how much of a Rethug she is. After all, she's famous for pioneering the womens lib movement within the country scene and she sang songs about The Pill.

Now, if oyu want to take it up with Republicans and conservatives, that's okay by me. You have pundits like Scarborough, O'Reilly, and Hannity who CONDEMN Hollywood liberals and really spew hate towards them, but then invite Hollywood conservatives on their shows and kiss their asses about how patriotic they are. Gimme a break. Can we say hypocrite?

So, I guess all the comedians performing in Vegas are now going to cut political humor out of their performance?

I don't remember this but would love to see it. I always forget that Julia was an SNL cast member, how long was she on the show anyway?

As far as Linda goes, wow. She is an amazing singer. I just purchased "We Ran," a compilation of Linda covering old 50's and 60's tunes that was put out around 1998 I believe. Her voice is still extremely strong, beautiful and rich. Even though she was going for a doo-wop kind of album, the songs actually came out sounding more akin to the California pop stuff she made in the 70's, which is great because I was thinking, hmmmm...I love Linda but I HATE doo-wop so this might be hard for me to deal with being more of a fan of her 70's stuff. Another fabulous, more recent, album she put out around the same time is the "Western Wall," with Emmylou Harris as co-collaborator. This is actually one of my favorite albums of all time. Linda and Emmylou's voices blend sublimely (of course) and the songs Emmylou penned for the album are some of the best she's ever written.

And as far as Stevie and Linda's voices not blending...I think they might be able to pull of a duet. Linda has an elastic range, she can go very high but she can also sing wonderfully mid-range and low. Stevie's range is shot so Linda would have to sing around her, which I think would work. However, a more fitting pair in my opinion would be Linda Ronstadt and Ann Wilson...talk about your belters! Those two would blow the roof off the place, and I of course would be in heaven .

Sure, hypocrisy is all over the place, but that wasn't my point, and it wasn't addressed at any of your posts, though I do appreciate your view. Hopefully it was meant light-heartedly anyway, but I was just taken back a bit by the fact that before it was clarified Linda was speaking favorably for Michael Moore anyone would have a loss of love for her. If you have an appreciation for a persons profession, their political views shouldn't change that, unless they are a politician. Also, my post didn't take any political parties stance. It was just a generic eyebrow raiser and not intended to incite any editorializing of one party versus the other.

Ugh. This must be the fifth time this week I've been bumped off The Ledge when trying to post a response.

What about Stevie and Ann again?

Julia was on for maybe two or three seasons with her husband Brad Hall, the blond guy. In the Joe Piscopo days. (A time gone way by.)
You've probably seen some of her skeches. Eddy Murphy's cigar-chomping Gumby Christmas/It's Christmas Dammit! Special - she played Marie Osmond who makes out with Donny while performing.
She did an un-funny recurring sketch with another woman as eastern European accented talk show hosts, and an un-funny sketch on how ridiculous the word Chanukah is. (Ironic since she's a relative of Alfred Dreyfus of the Dreyfus Affair.)
Usually she played the straight woman stiff, like she did in Christmas Vacation.

Oh, I know, I was stating my thoughts on something I had been discussing earlier and it happened to come up here.

Know of any other Holloywood conservatives? I don't.

Ronstadt Says She'll Continue To Praise Moore

http://apnews1.iwon.com/article/20040721/D83V9KI00.html

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Linda Ronstadt said she'll continue to praise Michael Moore and his film "Fahrenheit 9/11" on stage despite an angry reaction at a Las Vegas concert.

"This is an election year," she told the Los Angeles Times Tuesday. "I want people to get their head up out of their mashed potatoes and learn something about the issues and go and vote. ... I'm not telling them how to vote. I'm saying, get information about the issues."

When Ronstadt praised Moore and his documentary Saturday at the Aladdin hotel-casino, some in the audience stormed out of the theater and tore down concert posters.

The casino's president said he didn't allow the singer back in her luxury suite afterward and she was escorted off the property.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyone else find it odd that Miss Ronstadt was escorted out of the venue, yet nothing happened at all to the people who committed acts of vandalism and civil disobedience? Rather ironic.

Default Raitt dedicates "Your Good Thing (Is About to End)" to Bush

On a related note:

Raitt Dedicates Song to Bush

STOCKHOLM, Sweden(AP) Winding up her summer tour across Europe, Bonnie Raitt drew thunderous applause at the Stockholm Jazz Festival for dedicating a classic to President George Bush.

"We're gonna sing this for George Bush because he's out of here, people!" Raitt crowed Tuesday night before she launched into the opening licks of "Your Good Thing (Is About to End)," a cover that was featured on her 1979 album, "The Glow."

The song, written by Isaac Hayes and David Porter, has been sung by several notable performers, including Mable John and Lou Rawls.

Raitt's comments resulted in a round of applause and even whistles from among the estimated 3,000 concertgoers at the Swedish capital's annual jazz event held on the banks of the downtown Skeppsholmen island.

Swedes are skeptical of Bush, and the Scandinavian country refused to support his efforts in the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

The Grammy-winning singer is no stranger to political activism. Her Web site urges fans to learn more about preserving the environment and she was a founding member of MUSE, or Musicians United for Save Energy.

Miss Bonnie is soo cool
And as far as the vandalism at the Aladdin goes...Violence supposedly in the name of America and it's "freedom" is the point of the current regime. I'm not suprised.

I love Bonnie, she's a true talent that I always felt deserved MUCH more success than she even had with "Nick Of Time." I totally love her and her last album (Silver Lining) is always in my stereo.

Now, no one can go to a Bonnie concert and be shocked that she said somehting political. She's very out there when it comes to politics. Her and Willie Nelson held a joint concert to support Kucinich.

I saw her and Jackson Brown perform at a benefit for Nader in 2000.

I read that it was a FANTASTIC show. Lucky devil, you. She's one of the meanest slide guitarists out there.

Shw was great and so was he. He played Take It Easy, which kind of surprised me. I think she did Angel From Montgomery, which I think Stevie could do a killer rendition of.
