I might do that, Sharon, after all it's only fair to Stevie (and all the chiffonheads
) that he gets a page of his own too! But it takes a lot of time. I had a lot of time the last couple of weeks because of unemployment, but tomorrow I'm starting my new job ![]() |

Well, since the comment on the Rumours Forum about "some people" speaking in third person, was a thinly-veiled dig at my attempt at tactfulness, I'll go right ahead and say exactly what I think of The Nicks Files. How's that?
![]() And, of course, I'll be accused of lacking a sense of humour... because, as always, if you don't find something mean-spirited to be funny, it could only be because you don't have a sense of humour.... or, God forbid, you "don't get the joke." Which is why a question like this is flawed from the start... those who like the site will deride anyone who doesn't, for being too serious, or being a fluffy "Chiffonhead," or any number of other chastisements that are designed to demean and dismiss. It's been a long while since I've visited Mari's site, but the various articles that were there, I've read countless times on any number of "serious" Stevie sites. They're all still available elsewhere for anyone who wishes to read them. The "Disney Theatre" mp3 that a few people were talking about, is also something I've downloaded from other sites (I believe it's still available on Burnish.net), and.... *gasp*... I thought it was hilarious. Even shared it with several of my friends. And of course the various photos of Stevie are also available elsewhere. About the only thing that was unique to "your average Stevie Nicks site," was the inclusion of various unsubstantiated rumours... and some of those I had already read on other Nicks sites as well. So it's not like I have a problem with the content, per se. But... and since I'm not beating around the bush here... The Nicks Files reads like a Junior High "Slam" book (for those who don't know, a Slam book was something that kids passed around in school, where you'd write something mean and nasty about some classmate you disliked). Maybe other people see some kind of value in a site that focuses only on the most negative and/or embarrassing aspects of someone's life, but I guess I just don't. I don't think Stevie's a perfect person, or a "Goddess,"or that she should be treated as a saint, martyr, victim, or whatever... she's a human-being, and has her myriad faults. I also don't think that the Vox article, or others like it, should be swept under the carpet and ignored... but I do have trouble understanding the mindset of gleefully and unremorsefully broadcasting someone else's faults. Anyone here have the chutzpah to take all of the worst things they've ever done, their biggest mistakes, all their most painful and embarrassing moments, and create a site about it for all the world to see? Probably not. Anyway, to me the whole thing reeks of "Schadenfreude." So, that's what I think... my "honest, direct criticism," which Mari asked for. ![]() Blast away.

We should check The Black Vault to see if he's still walking the streets or if he's been locked up.
I did find this, though: http://www.bvalphaserver.com/modules...d=17747&page=1

Before it gets out of hand, I want to remind people of a couple of the Ledge guidelines, on what's not acceptable....
* Contents of emails, posts from other message boards, newsgroups or mailing lists authored by anyone other than yourself. Personal feuds will not be tolerated. * Any statement that defames, abuses or threatens others. You don't have to pretend to like someone, but please keep those types of discussions from flowing over onto the public forums. ![]()

Can I just ask this: who created that page that details all of ARs exploits? They ahve my respect. Props.

Of course a lot of material on my page comes from other fanpages, I make no secret of it. All I did was sort of 'reorganize' the articles or photographs
![]() Yep, it's very puberescent, I also admit to that. That's my taste of humor D: But it's goal is not simply to slam SN, it's rather a balance with The Average Stevie Site. Well, I'll keep on not pretending to like Jimmy then... ![]() |

Your problem with the site then seems to be that it has collected a lot of the stuff that can be viewed as negative and that it hardly includes anything "positive" about Stevie. I understand that but personally I don't have a problem with it. It's material that anyone with hatred/a weird relationship towards Stevie could collect if she/he had the patience to do it. But I don't think that was Mari's intention. I think she wanted it to be a fun site and I think it succeeds in that. But I also think that creating similar ones for several FM members is an important project. The community needs things like these, IMO. One tends to wonder would some of the things on the site come off less negative if Stevie wasn't so sincere and brutally honest. That 1991 Vox magazine article as an example again; while the writer probably attempted to create a negative impression of Stevie I still think she could have kept some of those things to herself. Reading it now; it seems like there's a person who isn't aware of the fine line between the private and the public. But I suppose most of that is attributable to that time period and the state of Stevie's personal life in those days. In any case, while some of the things on the site disturb me, I still welcome it to flourish and ever expand.

"Life" is disturbing, and funny at the same time. (steps off soapbox)
Seriously, I don't like it when anything just slightly negative (I mean generally, not just Stevie-related) has to be hid, can not be talked about, out of fear for what? Better to make a joke about it than pretend it isn't there. |

being a very devoted Stevie fan, there are things on that site that disturb me but I too have a dark sense of humor so I mostly "get it". I don't think Mari's site is malicious but as she freely admits it can be negative.
and yet both Mari and Johnny Stew have stepped up to the plate and shown that they are devoted fans to both Stevie and FM. so when Mari says her site is out there to balance the fluff sites, one of which I freely admit is mine...I believe her and what Johnny says about the fine line between humour and mean-spiritedness also strikes a chord with me as well....I do my share of twirling at many a FM/Stevie concert...and have had to endure my share of "we're now supporting Stevies twinkie habit" jokes from my hubby and it does hurt me (yes, I am still immature) and it gets my defenses up when my favorite celebrity is slammed on this or any board especially when I don't really know anything about the poster. but I refrain from starting any feuds for that very same reason...
