It just proves the point. This band doesn't need to do a scripted show. They CAN be more spontaneous if they wanted too. They should loosen up and get rid of the security banket. The crowds will eat it up even more when they toss the canned movements and speeches. Many performers interact with audiences but don't always do and say the exact same things nightly. High priced bands like FM should give the audience a sense it's seeing something special. Otherwise, before I pay their high ticket prices more than once, I'll put on The Dance video at home and save my cash to feed my own family not the bands'. |

ITA! I could even live with a concrete set list if they'd lose the scripted interaction. If the band got more personal with the audience it would be a win-win. They would be on stage longer (oh no! more work for them!) but it would seem special for each show. It would also help the non die hard fans if they talked a little more and explained lesser known songs before playing them. That's the type of show they should be doing at this point rather than doing Rumours show #10,005. |

Here's what I meant. With the sales of SYW being a disappointment, it's getting pretty obvious that the hardcore fanbase is shrinking and that we're not the ones who are filling the arenas. So the band plays what works for the majority: mostly hits & Rumours (and a static setlist). This isn't about being artistic and taking chances, it's about being commercial and giving the crowds what they want. It's... ahem... business savvy. ![]() |

Well, you've all basically summed up all of my feelings on the topic, but I'll go ahead anyways. The band is afraid that the $$$ will stop flowing in if they don't play the hits. Which is a bunch of ****, frankly. In fact, they'd probably make more money if people knew that it wouldn't be the same worn-out show EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. Look at the Grateful Dead as an example. My father followed them around for years because the setlist was never the same from night to night and he loved the music. FM would never do that, ever. And the excuses that either, A.) They've never done a song live before, or B.) It hasn't been played in a long long time, are **** as well. They wrote the damn songs for cripes sake! But now they can't remember how to play them? C'mon. I know they did waaaaay too many narcotics in the 70's/80's, but still!
Basically, I'm really not that angry at the band, in fact I'm glad they are even still around! I just wished they'd have some damn balls. |
