Bush visit halts food delivery
By Michelle Krupa
Staff writer

Three tons of food ready for delivery by air to refugees in St. Bernard Parish and on Algiers Point sat on the Crescent City Connection bridge Friday afternoon as air traffic was halted because of President Bush’s visit to New Orleans, officials said.

The provisions, secured by U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon, D-Napoleonville, and state Agriculture Commissioner Bob Odom, baked in the afternoon sun as Bush surveyed damage across southeast Louisiana five days after Katrina made landfall as a Category 4 storm, said Melancon’s chief of staff, Casey O’Shea.

“We had arrangements to airlift food by helicopter to these folks, and now the food is sitting in trucks because they won’t let helicopters fly,” O’Shea said Friday afternoon.

The food was expected to be in the hands of storm survivors after the president left the devastated region Friday night, he said.

Aaaaaand it just keeps getting better.

FEMA lost all the records for who in NO was on foodstamps. I hate that "org". Brownie and Bushie have a special place in hell all their own.

Give them three acres and a mule or two and they'll be all set.

Something about it reeks to me. Homeland Security is "organizing" it. It'll be interesting to see what the fine print is and how these cards actually go down.

I guess I saw it as a good thing because of the help cash can provide. But, I agree, let's see the fine print.

Police looting vid - in case it hasn't been posted already and/or you haven't seen it yet. It's both amusing AND appalling!

What do you mean? The people here get cards instead of paper food stamps. Or are you just questioning that they will actually get these cards? Or some other point that I missed?

but my local news (Channel 5 KOCO Oklahoma City) has been down there since 2 days before the hurricane reached shore (They showed some unbelievable footage of the storm surge that looked as deadly as anything I have ever seen Mother nature produce) and the scientologists were there even then hocking their "massages".

The bad thing channel 5 showed were children receiving these "assists".

I'm questioning how these cards are going to go down and be distributed, considering that it's the federal government issuing them. I'd like to see the fine print, because it's pretty much a guarantee that these won't be issued with no strings attached.

Gawd, it's sickening. How those ****tards can see this as a business opportunity is a mystery to me.

you get a card (Instead of the old paper food stamps) that looks identical to a credit/debit card, And you can view how much of a balance is left once you make your purchase.

Again my local news last night showed a NOLA citizen, who has been contacting FEMA for help...To no avail., He did not even know about the cards until the journalist told him, his reply was simple & to the point:

"How are the citizens supposed to find out anything from them (FEMA) when they dont even have a clue..."

well, if they are already food stamp recipients, I don't see huge problems. I actually think they will be no strings. But you are right, we'll see.

It's recently been reported that FEMA lost all public assistance records for LA. How they managed that is a mystery.

religion is a business...And a f**ktarded one too (That's why I havent been to a church, on my own accord for over 17 years...Aint planning on changing it. Oh, And I am NOT condemning all religions and/or churches, Just the ones that are in my area, The ones I call the "hypocrite brigades".)

Speaking of crap locally, I saw a piece on channel 5 where a certain town here in Oklahoma is concerned with the possible of influx of the citizens of NOLA to their town (Who will be staying at a local rescue mission) bringing in "trouble makers & drug dealers who may burn the town down"...Utter & unbelievably asscracking B.S.!!!!
