I never use the mean to animals argument, however, while I don't disagree with people killing animals for food, I do disagree with the way the animals are kept until death in the poultry and beef industries. I think it's cruel. It's not the same as, oh, say, when your grandpa goes out and shoots a deer, then everyone eats the meat all winter. The animals in the industry are kept in abhorrent, painful, and disgusting conditions, shot full of god knows what, and then killed.
To me those are very good reasons.
