Homer-I'm sorry to hear that Cash is not doing so well again. It breaks my heart because I am such a dog lover

I'll pray for him and keep my fingers crossed that everything comes out ok

also-for you and any other dog lovers. Have you read the book "marley and me" ??

OH. MY. GOD. if you havent read it, I wouldnt suggest necessarily reading it right now with everything going on, because it does have some sad parts. But oh, how I love that book. I laughed my ass off through the entire thing. When Cash gets better, I would definately suggest picking it up and reading it. You'll love your little canine furry friend even more (and I thought it was hard to do!!!)

I just got back from the vet with Max, and he has glacuoma, and is blind in his right eye. That really breaks my heart. So, they have him on eyedrops indefinately. Poor little fella.

That's a shame. Is his left eye still OK?

It is for now. We'll see what happens with the glacuoma ( I don't even know if I'm spelling it right-ha!) But he told me it was a possibility he could go blind in that eye too.

Homie-- sorry to hear about Cash- I will keep him in my prayers.

Sara-- sorry to hear about your dog going blind. My yorkie went blind due to old age (very common in old yorkies)-- and surprisingly she did very well around the house --I even moved into a new place-- I was a little worried about how she would adjust, but after a day or two of "following the walls" she had the floor plan down. Once in a great while she would walk into the wall (which I think was more senile than blind) .... I guess my point is blind dogs do just fine ... you just have to learn to be there "seeing eye person" when they are on leash.

I will keep you both in my prayers.

Thanks guys. No word yet. It's pretty much all I can think about.
It's so unfair that he has to go through all this crap for the past year and a half.
Thanks for the good thoughts.

Sorry to hear this. My friends that run a rescue farm have a blind dachshound, that they've kept for quite some time. It gets around just fine.

Wow - the waiting on the word about Cash must be agonizing!

I've been very lucky - Clancy was 9 when I got her - so that would make her 10ish now - but she's still in good health.

Although yesterday she was attacked by another dog at our apartment complex It was completely unprovoked - Clancy was sniffing a flower and I was standing next to her when all of a sudden this brown mutt comes from behind and just starts trying to rip my dog apart!!

The owner came running and I was trying to pull the dog away from Clancy - the dog stopped then lunged again - this time biting biting biting - Clancy started to wail and looked at me as if to say, "Help me, mama!" I was SO freaked out....I finally pried that jerk dog away from mine - tossed it over to its owner and started to check Clancy for wounds.

No broken skin (thank goodness) but my moo was totally freaked out (as was I). Because the attack was unprovoked I went ahead and reported it - what if a kid had been sniffing the flower instead of Clancy?

Anyway - some people just shouldn't have pets

Well ****. The word just came, and it's as I feared. She used a bunch of big words that I hadn't heard before(neoplasia?, among others), but the cells are related to the melanoma. It's time to decide what to do:
Remove the tumor, and hope that that slows the progression;
Take X-rays, and compare with the last ones, to see if they can see how far it's progressed, then decide a course of action;
Or, just continue chemo, and hope for the best amount of time left.

Obviously, I'm going for the X-rays(they can get him in, in 17 minutes-it's only 5 minutes away).
What do you guys think about removing the tumor? Is it an old wives tale, that opening up something like that, makes it spread faster? But, of course, he's been opened up before. The mandiblectomy; the initial tumor in his mouth; and he had a reactionary(to the chemo) tumor on the side of his head removed in Feb(I forgot to list that one earlier).
Damn, this sucks.

Oh man...I'm so sorry. It sounds like now you have to make some hard (and expensive decisions). I don't know about all this stuff - but I'd opt for the option that will make Cash most comfortable - the one that will cause him the least amount of pain and discomfort.

I've never heard that opening up something to remove a tumor makes it spread faster...but that doesn't sound right

yes..it is true, but I think it depends on what kind of cancer it it. And I don't know if it is the same with doggies vs. humans. I think once it is in the lymph nodes that is when it can spread like wildfire once oxygen hits it. But do canines have lymph nodes?? I don't know. I would definately ask your vet what would they do if it were their pet. Obviously you trust the dr. or you wouldn't put Cash in their care. So what would they do if it were their loved one?? You may get some help that way. Good luck and I have a few Kentuckians down here praying for him

edit: it seems I was wrong. *SHOCKER!! * I don't know how reliable this site is, but it seemed to be the consensus when I looked online
