That 1-1:30am set is the worst. Mainly because from 1:10-1:30 is usually "Free Bird" and I wanna just yak. That song just sucks the very soul right outta me.

Most of our gigs are 9-1. We had a place wanting us this past weekend. They wanted 10-2(which we HAAAAATTTTTTEEEEEE-hell, I'm not home then til 4AM). We told em 9-1, or MORE money! Cheap bastards settled for 9-1.
And YES, the last set sucks the LIFE out of you. I can't believe you do FB. We know Breeze, and 3 Steps, and only do them when ABSOLUTELY necessary.

Yeah, I can't believe we do it either...and so damned often...but, we charge $20 (to the tip bucket) before we'll play it. We could easily convert to a Skynyrd tribute band...we play at least one LS tune per set:

Gimme Three Steps
That Smell
Call Me The Breeze
Sweet Home Alabama
Free {cough, hack, wheeze} Bird
I Know A Little

I don't know if this was meant to be funny, but it was. Duly noted sir.

And yes, traveling is tiring. Traveling to Phoenix to visit my sister wears me out and I'm not even expending that much energy, so I can only imagine what Stevie's traveling schedule is like!

But yeah, to echo Amber (as she put it wonderfully) Stevie's older now, more fragile, and still keeps up a pretty crazy touring schedule with benefit shows, concerts, special appearances, etc. so I'm sure traveling is more taxing on her than it's ever been. She's pampered, make no mistake about it, but she's still got a certain amount of stress on her that we aren't accustomed to, and the woman works hard for her age--again, not the kind of work we're accustomed to, but it's hard work nonetheless.

Well, one has to take what comedy one can find in life, I suppose!

Now that I look back on my comment, I see that it's not what I meant. I didn't mean 'same set' per se. Here's what I did mean: I'd get tired of traveling, but I'd also get tired of playing a show every night.

Knowing that I had to get out there onstage each night would give me a sinking feeling & would ultimately exhaust my mind, body & spirit. It's a lot different from having to go to work at the office every day because you aren't specifically on display at the office & you don't feel the immense weight of having to please 10,000 screaming people at the office. Also, at the office you have fellow trenchers, whereas you're essentially on your own on a concert stage (there is no other Stevie Nicks to be Stevie Nicks with you during those two hours).

I feel this wearisome quality sometimes when my own band plays. Even if I have nothing to do during the whole day in Las Vegas except do a simple, relaxing soundcheck, a wearisomeness still sets in & my spirit sags a bit. Instead of feeling excitement--or only excitement--I feel the burden of the impending show, knowing that the responsbility is heavy on me to show up & perform well--a responsibility far greater than that at a day at the office.

Ah, see how it could have been interpreted? And I seriously thought the misinterpretation was what you meant! I guess I should say that I was HOPING the misinterpretation was what you meant

So, when you do the SYW lasso, you don't get tired at all?

I will make it my mission to one day attend one of your shows & scream "Free Bird!!!" at you repeatedly, while refusing to tip the necessary $20.

Actually, I'd prefer Tuesday's Gone or Ballad of Curtis Lowe.

No cash, no song. Simple as that.

Oh...and the bouncers are real protective of the band.

No problem, you're the one who'll have to put up with me screaming "Free Bird!!!" at you all night. If you think I'm annoying here on a message board, just wait until you meet me in person.

I'm kidding of course. Do people really yell "Free Bird" at your shows? And are they kidding, or do they really want you to play it?

Is there a difference? The kind of people who yell "Free Bird!" don't really care whether a band plays it or not. They just like the sound of their own voice, and they like to think they're being incredibly clever.
