David, this is so insane. I'm so sorry! I'm not sure if you can collect unemployment if you've been fired for "theft" , but do try anyway. I'm concerned that they didn't want to give you a raise or whatever, so they fired you for something you may not be able to collect unemployment for. I hope I'm wrong! You're so mild mannered on sweet on this board, I can't even imagine you being banned. You'll find something soon with an employer who will appreciate you.

I'm very to hear this. It is totally crazy to fired you for that! I'm sure that an even better opportunity will come along. Keep your head up and remember "when one door closes, another one opens." Good luck, David.

Wow, thank you for those kind words. And yes, I have been fired for that before, a place I once worked at about 10 years ago closed, but convienently I was let go about 5 days before they shut down for "Stealing" cigarettes, even though I dont smoke...

Sorry to hear about this - but it's the same the world over, I reckon. I've been fired three times from jobs for no reason (I know that sounds unlikely but it's true) - it just suits some employers to screw you over and they don't have the moral fibre to tell you straight that they're screwing you over. They prefer to make out that you broke a rule or something.

One time I was fired because a colleague (who had been top earner till I arrived) told the boss I said rude things about the boss's daughter... I never even met her...

Another time I was a van driver and I was given a van that was nowhere near roadworthy - I complained and said I'd take it down to the police station if I had to drive it - so I got fired instead.

Another time I was working at the Post Office as a temporary Xmas worker, and out of nowhere they accused me of stealing mail I mean, Jeeeesus. I asked them to prove it, I invited them to look in my car, my bag etc, but no - I was fired, and they didn't have to prove anything because I was only a temporary worker. I had no idea why they sprung that on me, and that hurt a bit to be honest, as I guess you are hurting right now.

Some employers are just barely human - but at least it shows us how much further up the evolutionary scale the rest of us are

David, she's an idiot, why couldn't you eat that hot dog? That's ridiculous, the woman needs an electroshock. I'm sure you'll find another job soon.

I am so sorry to hear this David. The whole thing does sound fishy to me. She looks at the videotape everyday? Never saw the other lady on the tape eating a hot dog? Sounds like a friend or relative might have needed a job so they had to create a position or something.
Hopefully you can get some kind of unemployment and even better yet get a job where you are treated nicely.

Damn. David, I'm so sorry. Hope youre doing ok anyways. I know in my place of work people have got displined for eating waste food (bread/cake) which seems so dumb, cos its only going in the bin! But fired? No.

Hang in there, theres something bigger and better and just all out nicer for you waiting in the world.

It could just be because of liability if you were to get sick. But being fired for it is extreme.

Pattie, I think your theory may prove true. I also think David that you will find something better, who wants to work for people like that anyway? Not all companies are run that way but unfortunately too many are.

David , I am so sorry to hear about the incident - getting fired is a very, very unpleasant experience. I hope you will find something new soon
However, like everybody else says, the whole story sounds strange. Why wouldn't they allow people to eat stuff that are going to be thrown away?? It doesn't make sense. And even if it was not allowed, and you didn't know, why on earth would they just fire you without giving you a second chance or warning or whatever? I mean, you have to know that there is a rule in order to break it, you didn't know, so it was not, at least entirely, your fault..After all, in law there is something called " good faith"..
Maybe they wanted to hire a relative or something..
Anyway, take care and I 'm sure you'll find a place with nicer employers..

David,

This is so ridiculous that it would be funny if the consequense hadn't been so serious. It seems that if a policy against it were in place, employees should have been informed of it. I'm sorry for what you had to go through, but I agree with everyone when they say that something...almost anything...else will be better. Good luck to you!

Kelly

David, I'm sorry to hear this. What a ridiculous reason to be let go and I agree that this woman has some problems if she thinks that its better to throw food in the garbage rather than donate to a shelter or simply not be wasteful and eat it.

You're a nice guy David and you should have no problem finding a better job very soon.

Sorry to hear you have been fired...although a door has to close in order for another one to open....it may not seem this way right now, but maybe it was a blessing in disguise....who knows --maybe there will be a robbery at the place and you could have been the one working when it happens....maybe the man of your dreams is working at the next job...sometimes when **** happens we don't understand why it is happening until much later one....either way this puts you on a new path....

Sorry everyone. I've been busy looking for jobs the last couple days. I decided that sitting on my ass and feeling sorry for myself wasnt a good idea. I filled 3 out yesterday and today, and there's this place that's like 4 blocks from my house that probably will have something for me next week. Here's the funny thing. The manager of that place is the husband of the head cashier at my old job!! Talk about a weird situation. But he knows me, and I was honest with him about what happened. Also, My store manager at my job I was just fired at felt really bad for me so she said I could use her as a personal but not professional reference, which I really appriciated! So I'm going to try a couple more places tomorrow and see what happens. I've learned that moping and doing nothing only makes the problem worse. Although I will say that the depression meds that I'm on have helped me keep my sanity.
