Unhappy Working on Thanksgiving

I just started my job at the hospital about two weeks ago. There really arent any people my age. I work with older people. Well since I was the newbie no one (even my boss) said that there was a sheet to sign up for holidays. They just told me yesterday.....I have to work 12-6 on Thanksgiving

But hey it was either Thanksgiving or Christmas....

Still I am a sad panda.......

Hey Panda,

Hopefully you'll be paid double time. I always did when working Thanksgiving. Plus you're off @ 6...not too late to still enjoy.

You'll be glad once Christmas rolls around. Hope it's not too bad for you and as I said in another thread to Curtis, there *are* people who appreciate you working the holidays.

Aww, I am sorry Jimmy. Just make sure that your family saves some dinner for you. Do you get paid time and a half? If you do then that is a bright side and if not at least you have a job that you seem to like.

Sorry Jimmy. Maybe you will have the same luck I did the one year I had to work Thanksgiving. When I was in college I worked the front desk at a high rise resort condominium in Coronado, California. There were 18 floors and about 10 condos on each floor. Everyone, and I mean everyone, felt sorry for me and I had more food brought down to me than I could have possibly eaten in a month. I never wanted to see another piece of pumpkin pie in my life! Have a great Thanksgiving anyway!

Terry

Sorry, Jimmy! That sucks! At least you're getting well-paid, though. Hopefully, you can still enjoy the evening after you get off work.

I used to request to work Thanksgiving. If I worked 7a-3p, I ate later, if I worked 3p-11p I ate early. And I loved the OT. I don't have the option anymore, though, we're shut down Thurs - Sun.

Yeah, i did not have that "choice". Since I am new they didn't tell me about this paper to sign to see what hours I wanted on a holiday. So after all the other people who had to work with me on thanksgiving wrote in the morning shift, they stuck me with the afternoon one.....assholes.

My office is closed for the holiday and my schedule is such that (for now) I don't work on Fridays or Saturdays. We're always closed Sundays.

I worked Monday and Tuesday and I have to work today, but then I don't go back until next Monday.
